This is the 3rd anniversay of my filing.
Just wanted to let all the new folks on here know that you can file bk and come out the other side in good shape. I filed a no asset Chapter 7 on $71K worth of cc debt. Thanks to my states exemption for equity in my home plus, I exempted my IRA and 401K, I was discharged with about $90K in assets. While I made a lot of bad choices with money, I never had a HELOC or, raided my retirement accounts. To anyone contemplating those actions-don't do it. Don't turn unsecured debt into secured debt and leave those ERISA qualified retirement accounts alone.
Once discharged, I got a better job. About 6 months later, I picked up some pt weekend work-overnight for a Fotune 500 retailer. It's grunt work but, I net about $110/week and get some good execrise.
The thing I'd leave you with is, recognize that filing bk is easy. What comes next is hard. Learning to live on a budget and on cash for awhile. Plus, fixing the issues that created the bk. You don't want to settle for the status quo. You want to use the fresh start to really improve your life.
Good luck to us all!
