    Legal Helpers

Has anyone here used Legal Helpers to take care of their BK case? Just looking for opinions. I know LH is a widely spread group of attorneys across the country, almost like a franchise deal. Just curious. I did some searching and haven't seen anything about them. There's gotta be something here somewhere.

They are a chain type deal with affiliated attnys and offices located around the country. We chatted with their local rep here and decided against using them.

Several of the things the LH attny told us were contradicted by other private practice attnys. When you've got one saying Yes and all the others saying No, I think that tells you something.

We weren't very impressed, so we moved on.

I would not go with them. I had lots of questions and they wouldn't take the time to answer the questions if I weren't filing RIGHT THEN. He said, "frankly, if you're not ready to file, I don't have time for questions."

      Bye..bye

We used them and it went GREAT ....I do not know about others comments about Legal Helpers, maybe they had a bad day...LOL

We first met with them in Feb 2005, we had no money and they were SSOOO NICE, they let you do payment plans and give you discounts through out your payments...we did!
We did not file until September of 2005, however the WHOLE time between Feb - Sept, they answered all our questions, and even helped us with wage garnishments. We have NOTHING but praise to say about them. We are In Illinois, and they were great! We met in the Schaumburg office and signed our papers in the Chicago office. We were able to go to the courthouse by our house, and it went perfectly.
I also called about 15 lawyers in our area, and legal Helpers was $300-$500 cheaper than anyone else.

****And even though we are discharged and closed, they are now representing us in a lawsuit against one of our creditors for violations to the Fair Debt Act and violating the Automatic stay. We have a strong case, so we will see what happens with the outcome. They also are not charging us anything unless we win. So they paid our filing fee for our lawsuit and for everything else right now.

Your best bet is to meet with them for yourself..it's free, and get a feel for them. Then you can make your own conclusions.

        good luck

          Oh,........ I forgot this part,.......

Other attnys have asked us to bring different things to Consults when we come. Pretty much similar stuff. Pay stubs, bank statements, past income taxes we filed, etc. Odd cause no one has ever looked at any of it more than just a cursory glance.

The LH attny stressed that we needed to bring our checkbook with us. That's the only one that mentioned that so I asked why. I thought all kinds of reasonable things like he wants to see who we write checks to and for how much. But NOOOOooooooooo! He wanted us to bring our checkbook so we could give them a $100 retainer right then and there.

All the other attnys have told us how much they will charge, but none of them has pressured us to pay something at the Consult. They have all wanted us to go home and think it over. Call back with further questions if needed. Let them know when we were ready.

WOW that is really WEIRD!!! Did you have a min consult on the phone?? we did, and they said if once we meet with them, and we decided to go with them, then we can pay a retainer fee.
Funny that you mention they "pressured you" See the thing is, at our consult they asked us if we wanted to set up another meeting AFTER, we talked to more lawyers. They NEVER pressured us at all! They know people have other choices!

Too bad you had a bad experience with them ....they were great to us, and we didn't spend nearly what others did for the same results!!

Also if I felt funny with them at all, I would not ask them to represent us for our current lawsuit.
The proof that we are doing business with them again a second time (by choice) has to tell they do a good job!

I think it's location in our situation. You are near where LH has a huge presence. We did do a mini phone Consult. An LH attny comes to an office in town here one afternoon/evening every other week. When I heard why they wanted us to bring our checkbook, I didn't schedule a face to face.

I'm glad you had a good experience with LH. I'd bet it's our location. LH has a huge office in Chicago with reps in the surrounding metropolitan area. We're about 2 hours from Chicago in a mostly rural area. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the attny we were supposed to meet with just contracts with LH for our area.

Wow, another bad experience for you Sinking, you've got it rough. The attorney that we saw is with LH which is why I asked. No pressure at all. He answered our questions and we brought a few papers home to read and send back with the $100 retainer check if we wish.

Then again, as I said in another thread, our case should be pretty straight forward. No asset, ch. 7, in and out BK type of deal. I'm just hoping everything remains status quo for a few months.
