    Hmm i was thinking

I was thinking of just getting a part time job during the summer once I start law school (well i start law school in fall) but anywho. Since I still owe some money and haven't filed and don't plan on filing for now does anyone think waiting tables would be a good job to have without having to worry about wage garnishment?

I was thinking... you only get paid like 2.15 and you never are guaranteed a certain tip amount. I donno was just a though that popped up in my head. I didn't know if they could get a judgment on the tips or not since it is under the table basically.

I wouldthink that they would figure a certain percentage for tips. Like the IRS taxes a person with that type of job a certain percentage, under the assumption that they did receive that much in tips. I dont know for sure, but I doubt you could get away with counting only the base wage.

when you're waiting tables, it really depends on the restaurant as to how they work the tip issue...some places pool, but most will tell you that it's in your best interest to claim a certain % regarding tips...but...tips are not guaranteed so it's one of the mysteries of the tax return world...personally, it's great way to make unaccountable cash...and eat well...and have fun while you work...and meet people...

You have to claim at least enough tips to equal your states minimum wage when combined with your hourly.

Well I just figured since I won't be able to work much anyways, since all I will be doing is research =\ ... the times I do have to make a little extra cash and like AMI it's never guaranteed on how much you will make. oh well can't set precedent till you try right? lol. If they sue me then I'll just play the system for a while. Hell if you play your cards right they can't even get into the discovery phase for a while. Not that I wanna deal with lawsuits.

Not worth the risk. Its not going to hurt you to claim 3-4$ an hour in tips to be on the safe side.

Oh yeah definately not ;) .. I'll claim it of course, my mom is an accountant so she probably would do it anyways since she does my taxes.
