    Negotiating Yourself with CC Companies

Has anyone here ever negotiated with CC companies themselves? Meaning sent off a letter and got a response on lowering the amount due? If so, how did you word the letters and the length of time it took to get them lowered?

Very curious to do this possibly..more than likely going to file bankruptcy, but want to try one last ditch effort...won't hurt to try, I guess..

There have been successful cases of doing this. Like you say, it can't hurt.

Might check out some of the credit boards to see how others have handled this successfully.

One thing to be aware of is, any amount "forgiven" by the CC company is then considered taxable income and will be reported to the IRS. This is not the case if bk is filled.
