I filed for bankruptcy in 1997 and it was discharged. I was looking at new cars last weekend and the sales person told me to call Equifax and get the bankruptcy removed from my credit report. He said he would be able to offer a better interest rate. I called Equifax and the rep. told me I have one more year before it will come off my credit report. I asked it there isn't some way to get it removed now. She told me to call the courthouse where the bankrutpcy was handled and ask them to send the credit agencies a Letter of Deletion. She even gave me the phone number to the courthouse! My question is....has anyone ever heard of this? I don't want to make a fool out of myself by calling a government facility and asking this question. I guess it would be worth a try?! Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Worth the try? Probably
Actually happening - I doubt it.....
When they say it stays 10 years it does.
But you filed in 1997 yours should only be for 6-7 years......
Soooooooooooooooooo, good possibility you can get it deleted off your credit record.....
I'd sure check!!!!!
Good luckMinny

My suggestions are from "personal experience" and research only. Do not consider this as legal advice. Each bankruptcy case is different.
