    Good article about debit cards.

If you are like me and have switched over to debit, you may want to read this. I'm going to cover my pin w/my hand for now on and never use my debit online!!! I sure don't need more trouble and I know most of you don't either!!

I've moved it here to the News Section as the article was recent and will be very helpful to people.

As Bach points out in the article (which is a good one, BTW), running it as a signature-based transaction (i.e., choose "credit" rather than enter your PIN) is a safer way to go.

The only time I use my PIN now is when I'm making a cash withdrawal at the ATM. My bank also gives cash rewards for using the signature versus the PIN, so all the more reason to keep doing so...

I don't need to read an article to see the trouble. I've never used a debit card, its like a permanent link to your checking account. That alone rings bad news to me.

Many of the best practices described in the article should be applied to credit cards too. I personally like the fact that my Visa Debit card defaults to ATM mode at most retailers. In other words, when I try to swipe my card to use it as a credit card, the machine automatically requires that I enter my PIN, which can be a PITA but is a nice security measure for debit card users.
