Many of the hospital in Massachusetts have had one or more layoffs this year and anticipate more in '09 because of significant decrease in patient volume, increased free care/bad debt, and low payor reimbursements. Because of high unemployment hospital's will continue to hurt because many people will be forgoing health care and those many of those who do seek health care will be unisured resulting in free care and bad debt.
