    10 Years from now....Dream

Bankruptcy and financial difficulties can be a downer, full of hassle and headaches...but in the end, we should have a goal or dream. Thus, I wanted to start this thread to get people thinking positively about the future.

Where do you want to be 10 years from now, what do you see yourself doing, what would you like to have?

I am not asking, "if money were no object...?" I am simply asking that you think positively and realistically and come up with a goal or a dream that you can start making tiny steps for today. Also, try not to be too vague, it is much easier to work toward something "specific". Its much easier to plot a course on a map if you know the destination.

The odd thing is, even though I am starting this thread, I really don't have my own answer yet, I will have to think about it some.

In 10 years, my husband and I will likely both be involuntarily retired from our current jobs. After our Ch 13 case is closed in 4.5 years, we plan to invest every extra penny we have into our retirement and getting our house ready to sell until the day each of our current employers force each of us to stop working! (And who knows....maybe after that we'll be saying, "Would you like fries with that?" to fill in remaining income gaps! )
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

    06/01/06 - Filed Ch 13
    06/28/06 - 341 Meeting
    07/18/06 - Confirmation Hearing - not confirmed, 3 objections
10/05/06 - Hearing to resolve 2 trustee objections
01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!
06/10/11 - Trustee confirms all payments made
    08/10/11 - DISCHARGED !

    10/02/11 - CASE CLOSED
Countdown: 60 months paid, 0 months to go

10 years. If God grants good health and by his grace, I will be retired with an income of about 4000.00 per month plus wifes retirement. I will be out of DROP and 57 years old with about 250k in cash from DROP. I am fortunate not to work in an industry that is subject to ups, downs or layoffs, EXTREMELY secure job, every dime tied to 13C and High Voltage, even the floor sweeper can't be farmed out. Even if forcibly retired today for some outlandish nuclear disaster would still have an income and still be ably employed by another system. In the Florida Retirement System which is rated the top suystem in the Country. In finances i have been a disaster, in work and family i have been very fortunate and triply blessed. Have 24+ years on the job.

Hopefully my place in Tennessee will have a house on it then and I'll be there. I hope I will have Grandkids then.

        Hmmmmmm...10 years.....I will be 55, and husband will be 57 ....
kids will be 32 / 27 ...eww that sounds scary~ LOL
I hope to have at least 100K IN THE BANK....
possibly move further south and west....soaking up the sunshine in a small but well built modest home. I HOPE that I still have the cars that I have now,(part of my problem....I love cars, have over indulged- not fancy cars, but a new one every 2 yrs...not a wise decision) and a ton of wisdom.
I hope that I have learned a very valuable lesson about money~ but I figure if I have 100K SAVED CASH....then I will know that I succeded in my financial goals.
I hope that I can achieve a goal of just having "what I need" VS. "what I want" .....and being happy with that.
I hope to be able to spend wisely, but somewhat freely on my grandchildren~ (surly I'll have some by then...LOL)~ and just live a joyous life with my wonderful husband, and children / grandchildren. Hope to live a simple life, with simple things~ have my health still, and have peace~ that's all that I need, just peace~ peace with myself, peace with God~ that's a joyous dream for me!!

Hopefully in 10 years to be retired, in decent health, and on the road in a RV touring around (half of the year).......seeing all the places that I never got to see as a young adult.... and financially able to do it all.....

This was a great thread even before it started, and my personal outlook mirrors what you just said. I'd like a lot of things, but for someone who is even mildly 'stuperstitious', I think its better not to jinx myself...

My sister will have finally become an adult, and little dramas in and around my family will have ceased.

And that the doctor discovers new procedures so that I can have kids!

We filed BK and got discharged with 10-12 years to recover before retirement.

Our goal is to stay debt free, and this means all debts, no mortgage, no car note. Cash and carry baby! So for the next 10 years, we'll be saving every penny possible and dumping as much as we can in savings, investments, and retirement accounts.

At the 10 year mark, we'll be looking pretty good for retirement.

Our only goal now is to recover enough to be able to retire. Our 10 year goal is retirement.

We made some major mistakes and we were livin' large, it will cost us 10 years, but we are determined to recover. Our peers in our age group (mid 40's-early 50's) have nice big homes, kids in college, vacation homes and Beamers sitting in the driveway - We are currently living like college students in a teany weanie apartment and eating mac & cheese for dinner.

We don't want or need to live large anymore, we just want to survive old age.

I heard that "wanting to survive old age".......................

It's getting harder and harder, and if your single, it's EVEN HARDER.......

And unfortunately, some are not going to be prepared for it and will end up working many more years......

10 years from now I would like to have been able to refinance our home for 10 years and have a decent amount of retirement.

If we are financially able to do so, we would like to travel. Both my husband and I like the mountains and hiking.

Most of all I want to see my kids get through college and get on their feet. Maybe even help them with weddings.

Wow. 10 years from now I'll be 60 and three years away from "early" retirement. My hubby will be 71. My oldest daughter will hopefully be almost done with medical school and my youngest daughter graduated from college.

Initially, my husband retires in six years. In six years my youngest will be graduating from high school and I should be finished with my MFA in creative nonfiction. However, if I "retire" in six years I will not have any medical or life insurance benefits from the University. I have to weigh what kind of benefits I will have at age 63 versus leaving at 56.

We want to move back to the coast (we are both from Seattle) and settle around Ocean Shores. I thought about finding a teaching position at a nearby community college or doing medical transcription work (as long as my eyesight and hands hold out) to supplement our income. If I wait until I can draw full benefits, our monthly income would be around $3500 a month (a little more than what we make now). We would like to buy a small rv and travel to Montana to visit my son, with some trips to Arizona and California here and there.

It's going to be hard for us to sink any additional $$ into savings since we have children in college and junior high

In 10 years, both of my girls would be out of college and already comfortable in the working world. Hopefully, I will have grandchildren by then too! We will only be 55 & 54 so we will both still be working. I plan on enjoying my grandchildren and spoiling them rotten then handing them back to their parents We won't get to save much in the 10 years with college, weddings and all but should be able to start saving more 10 years before our retirements. In 10 years we will less than 8 years to pay on our home and should be paid off by the time we retire. Hopefully the only bills we will have in 10 years will be our utilities and our mortgage
