I'm hearing mixed reviews. Is Happy Feet a good movie for a mature 5 year old? Or is it too scary in parts?

Anon, there's a wonderful website that rates movies for their suitability for kids by providing a plot summary explaining what might be objectionable and where it is in the movie, then gives the movie a score for its level of sex and nudity, violence and gore, and profanity - http://www.kids-in-mind.com . I've used it for years to figure out whether we could take our own kids, then our nieces and nephews to movies. The best thing is you'll know exactly what to expect and when it happens in the movie - very helpful!Originally posted by anonymuse View PostI'm hearing mixed reviews. My kids school rented out the Ultra screen movie by us and is having family movie day on Saturday $3 a ticket. So my family and my best friend's family is going. The kids ages are my two 6yrs & 11yrs and hers are 3yrs & 6yrs. We don't see there being a problem. we can't wait....we love our Ultra screen, it is bigger than the stupid "Imax" by my brothers. We had seen the first 2 Harry Potters on our Ultra, then he bought us tickets to go with him to see the latest one on the "Imax" , and we were like oh ok...so where is the screen. Never again we will stuck with our Ultra, and it is only a $1 upgrade.

I saw it
We saw it last weekend. There is a bunch of sexual innuendo, some songs I felt were a bit to explicit, a penguin put into a very 'interesting' postion, and a bit of picking on religion/conservative values in some eyes and a strong envirnmental message. If any of the above could offend you, maybe reconsider. My kids ages 7 & 3 were very scared on a few parts and bored at all the singing. My conservative husband hated it. I thought it was kind of cute but made for older children & adults more than little ones. It was to long.
Would I buy it on DVD? No. I love penguins too and bought march of the penguins...but this was just over the top.
I LOVED Flushed Away though!! I cant wait to see the new Charlotts Web.
This is just my opinion though.

I am VERY conservative and pick up on the little political messages very quick. However, the singing would be a plus. We could all use a little environmentalism, or i would say conservationist mentality. While i am not an evironmentalist or liberal, i definitely don't put used motor oil in the ground or drain antifreeze in the gutter.
I will definitely see it though."You once asked me for advice. You want some now? Never pass up a good thing." Lieutenant Jean Rasczak, Starship Troopers
