Bathroom pics VERY REVEALING BE WARNED

    Hi folks

Sorry Mods, had to do it!!

Son number 2 and I ripped out the upstairs bathroom last week. Thought I'd post a little about our progress since it is my "first" real home project ever.

It ain't much but we actually have enjoyed it, the trips to Home Depot get OLD!!!!!

Dang, we are at 88 people viewing right now, when will we beat that 436 number?

When we were getting our house ready to go on the Market, we referred to those trips as "Our daily pilgrimage to Home Depot."

I swear, employees there got to know us by the time we were done!!

People here in SoFla are not friendly in general so as many times over the many years I have lived here people tend to see you but not acknowledge in a friendly way. I consider myself very nice to the floks at any store but SoFloridians in general are a HORRIBLE group of people. Asking for help in a HD here is like getting a root canal even after I spent 7k on cabinets (they are in the living room right now) and 4k on new carpet at my HD. It is typical SoFla alienation, so i won't get started on, 36 years away from TN are weighing on my mind, I am down to five years left now, tic... tic... tic...

Just a note, one of Superintendents making 130,000.00 per year who started with me in the same job in the early 80's gave up the job (he advanced, I have no such desire or ambition, the politics on my level are bad enough and I make a good salary and do what I love) , benefits and took the pension hit, though his will still be about 50k a year even with early retirement. He is managing a Home Depot outside of Atlanta GA and is as happy as a clam though he has a FAR lesser MUCH MUCH harder job, believe me he had it good. First comment, the people here are so different!!!!!

My sister says much the same about where she lives in Michigan. The women are especially bad there according to her. She refers to it a "Michigan B*^ch Syndrome".

Sinking I'm gonna go off thread a little. I am happy here with family and Church and beloved friends. My best friend lives nearby and I have a good life. He is buying property beside me in TN, we've known each other for many, many years.

Two miles down this road to paradise is my neighborhood in TN, the sign is right beside the forked road in the second pic. One will take you to my neighborhood in FFG and the other takes you back in time to Crab Orchard TN, where much of that Home Depot stone is quarried and to the FINEST, sweetest Peach groeves on God's Earth. The draw to leave is great and abandon this place, period.

By the Grace of God I will one day drive up 127 and meet Minnymouth who is about 80 miles north and I will play with my hopefully annoying grandchildren in the summers and rebuild old cars and such.

We have made friends here during our summer stays, we have involved ourselves with the local AG Church and met some ex-Sunrise Floridians both Anglo and Hispanic (the manager of the Dollar Store is Puerto Rican and lived around the corner from us) who will never come back, we love the community more and more each time we go. AN Indian Doctor just built his houase around the corner from me, I imagine he is working at the local Cumberland Medical CTR. He used to be at Vanderbilt in Nashville. I'm not living in town, I want to be with fellow transplanters as I am also used to a mix of people and people in FFG seem to have a higher education level than the locals, not being offensive, I just want to be comfortable in retirement, I've lived with "troubled neighborhoods" here to long.

Orchard Grove sounds so familiar. For several years, My sis and family lived in TN. SW of Nashville. Can't recall the town names right of the top of my head.

People there were nice. We always enjoyed our visits. I'm jealous you'll be going there when you retire.

Hubby's people are from Southeastern KY, speading over into TN. Toward Knoxville area. Jobs have always taken us in other directions. We hope someday to make our way back there.

What color are you planning to tile the shower. Or are you gonna do one of those piece together, fiberglass units??

FORSOOTH!!! Nooooo, ripped out a fiberglass unit!! "Illusion Ice" from Home Depot.

SW Nashville is Belle Meade, Forest Hills (my home) and Brentwood. While Nashville has changed i visited these communities on my visit last summer. My town of Forest Hills is wonderfully changed for the better, gorgeous and beautiful, I would live there in a heartbeat but can't afford it. My parents home in 1969 cost what my townhome sold for 2001, about 89 grand. Brentwood is lovely, LOW CRIME AREAS ALL, VERY LOW and the demographics are pretty much unchanged. Home values, high as can be. Belle Meade is still beautiful and exactly as i left it in '71. What changed in my 'hood is that the million dollar homes on Hillsboro Pike near Williamson County have all been redone. My old neighbors are still there, from 1959!!!!!!!! SW Nashville is a great great place to live.

I looked it up on Yahoo on the map. Sis lived in Dickinson to start. When they got relo'd there. Then they moved over to Waverly. A bit further out from Nashville than you're talking.

Min, we will meet. Our home to be in FFG is 64 miles from Clinton Kentucky. It is that north section of 127 that gets a little dicey, but it is FUUUUN to drive!
