    Exercising

What do you do for exercise?

I was a runner for 20+ years, but I can't run anymore. My knees are shot and I had to have surgery for a bone spur a few years ago. So now I walk 45-1 hr, do pilates and always do yoga.

I walk/jog/run and also do strength training. I have my 2nd 1/2 marathon this weekend at Disneyland. Third is in Long Beach in Oct.

I go in cycles. In 2006-2007, I was mostly running, ran 2 marathons (L.A. and Big Sur).

Now I don't run as often, or that distance and dabble with CrossFit. The fact is, I don't exercise as often as I should.

        12 oz. curls

haha, im lucky i still have a pretty fast metabolism near 40, at 6'1 192 lbs. I used to work out with weights a lot back in my twenties, just cant afford a gym right now. But when I can afford it, I will start back to hitting the free weights again.

I'm stuck in an office setting all day with a long commute both ways. I do Jazzercize and have been doing it for years. I also walk as time permits and do a lot of heavy yard and garden work on weekends as weather permits (we have just under an acre of ground surrounded by woods on 3 sides...it's a constant battle between our yard line and thorns, poison ivy, etc.. Between working and household, free time can get scarce so I ensure I get to Jazzercise twice a week (1 1/2 hours each session) in the evenintgs and on Saturday mornings when possible.

On an 8 hour shift, I probably end up walking anywhere between 5-7 miles...maybe more. I've been pretty good about watching what I eat. I've maintained the same weight for 20 years now. I still have pants from high school that fit me.

I try to do stretching and some simple yoga poses at home. I'd been kicking around the idea of a gym lately.

One place wants $40 to setup membership and $9/month and $20/annual membership after that.

The rate of $9/m seems cheap until you factor in all the added 'costs.'

I just have some $20 set of dumbells at home that I'd bought from walmart. I barely touch those. But it's good to have them when I get inspired.

Any big fitness machines have always become great places to hang blankets and clothes for drying :P Very expensive clothes lines!

LOL! I was going to say (type) the same exact thing! HA-HA-HA-HA-HA! When I'm feeling really strong some days, I'll do 3-reps of 24oz curls during happy hour.

I'm a Curves member (daughter and son-in-law's gift for the past 3 years) and attend 3 vigorous sessions each week. I also walk about a mile a day in the evenings after work at the park across the street, unless it's raining.

Rarely ever anymore! I used to workout on our weight machine 3-4 x's week, along with walk daily either outside or on the treadmill. Then my migraines started, I'm usually down with migraines about 20+ days each month. It's exhausting. I barely have enough energy left to make dinner and do laundry. I keep saying I'm going to just exercise thru the migraines, but I haven't yet. It hurts my head to listen to someone walk down the hall, let alone move.

My main exercise is typing on this forum. I have the ten strongest fingers in our town. LOL. Like BassBoy, after 5:00 I then get into my elbow exercises, until the 6 pack is gone. (Thank Gawd, Mrs. is sleeping and won't read this). 'Hub

                      Good days, bad days

I have assorted autoimmune problems, so try to walk 30 minutes on good days and lift a few hand held weights while catching the evening news. Bad days in summer I water walk in my pool or go to the Y in the winter 3 days a week on "senior" free mornings (anyone over 65...I'm not quite there yet, but no one "cards" us)

My technically savvy bro-in-law rigged up his exercise bike to a "wind-up to power" TV and my sister is motivated to ride and watch her favorite soap. Or she walks and listens to at least a chapter of an audiobook she gets from the library. She had arthritis and knee replacement and needs the distraction to walk or ride "through the pain" to get better.
