    Why can't anything be simple?

I filed a few weeks ago and I'm waiting for the 341 meeting. I'm trying to do the right thing and let our most expensive vehicle go back to the bank. Our least expensive vehicle (~$5,000) is wrapped up in cross-colateralization problems and it doesn't seem like the credit union will budge even though repossessing it wouldn't be worth the bother. Despite it all I'm trying to hang on to one or both of them and save up some cash for a replacement before they get towed away.

Today the transmission started slipping on the cheaper vehicle. I'm bummed out because I was hoping we manage to keep it somehow. I take good care of my vehicles and I've already made sure it wasn't something simple like low fluid.

All this is happening after the same vehicle had a bearing failure on the engine last fall! I let it sit all Winter thinking we'd file soon and let it go but we still couldn't file. After it sat for a months and Bankruptcy still seemed far away I was able to get the engine replaced with a brand new one for a very reasonable price and I was sure it would serve us for many more years.

I hate the idea of financing a replacement and vehicles that are hundreds of dollars are in high demand around here and are usually very overpriced for what you get.

    WHY CAN'T ANYTHING BE SIMPLE!!!

Discharged November 2008 100 days after filing no-asset Chapter 7. We intended to let a two-year-old vehicle go back to the bank and reaffirm an inexpensive ten-year-old SUV and our home mortgage. In the end we surrendered ALL of our vehicles and reaffirmed NOTHING. We'll "ride through" our mortgage after the court ruled it an undue hardship.

It always gets worse before it gets better.

I thought I was going to seriously blow the transmission in my brain when in the middle of all this BK thing, I found out I was getting audited by the IRS...two years worth, no less. I spent four sleepless days and 300 dollars in paper and ink printing everything out for the auditor.

I've had a few car challenges in this timeframe too but I got through it all.

The car stuff is just magnified by the BK situation right now...will seem small later on.

Hang in there Keeb. It will get better. And you will come out the other side wiser. Things will get simpler.

The brakes on my car went out a few weeks after filing, I think we all have that little test after filing.

The good thing is you could now amend the filing I suppose and surrender it. Otherwise maybe you can find a reasonable mechanic around.

My hope is that the depth of the low predicts the height of the rebound and this all means things are really going to be great for us!
