    Depressed Kitty

Okay - big problem here! I used to have two cats, but moving back home my dad said I could only have one. My mom offered to take my older female cat because my little one (just turned one today!) is WAY too hyper and attacks her other cat. Well - for the last two weeks my cat has been HOWLING, very loudly from about 2am - 5am. He's nuetered so it's not a mating call, he doesn't have any physical problems ... nope, my cat is depressed. I can put him on anti-depressants, but they are WAY expensive, and he doesn't want to "play" anymore when I'm awake - any suggestions?

    That's so sad...
Have you tried asking on a forum for cat care?

Try taking the little guy over to your mothers and see if he gets real excited when he sees the older cat. Could be he see's her as a Mother image and he's lonely for "mom"......
Also, there could be a female in heat in your general area.... Just because he's neutered, doesn't mean the "notion and senses" don't work... He just can't produce any off-spring...

      Keep me posted,

Ooh ... did not know that. There is a female cat of my neighbors who has been wandering around, I bet she's got the poor little bugger in a release.

I took him over by mom's over the weekend, he had fun torturizing the other cats - I really wish there was a Kitty Care like there is Doggy Day Care!

I have six of the little buggers running around my house! (all fixed). No howling problems. But they try and get down the vent constantly, so we have had to nail the covers to the floor.

Does the cat have any other cats to hang around at all? Cats like being with other cats. It may be why he's depressed.

            Good luck with him.

No - my older cat is gone and he HATES my dad's dogs. He hides during the day when they wander around. He has more toys then most kids I know and he won't even play with them anymore.

I think it's slightly funny how it was recommended he see a "Behavior Therapist" - basically an animal psychiatrist or go on anti-depressants. I did the anti-depressants with a cat I had for 18 years (I moved out of our farm house and took him to a small apartment - he pissed on everything out of "anxiety" according to his vet) but it's expensive and not that worth it!

Personally, I think he's just "lonely".........misses his buddy.....

                Animals need friends too....

Shame you had to get rid of the other one....

Animals do "grieve" too, when a mate or family member dies....or leaves. Mine did....
