PLEASE Need advice from other parents of toddlers

As of today, I started noticing my son (toddler) with an obnoxious habit. He is pooling spit in his mouth and squirting it between his teeth, sometimes spitting out and drooling globs onto himself or the floor.

Each time he does it, I've scolded him. I've tried time out. And even being very stern. Nothing seems to be helping. I do not spank. I don't think it would matter.

Each time he is caught, he just cries. But then he'll do it again soon after, like it's some uncontrollable urge.

It is really bizarre as he's not done this in the past. I can only imagine he must have picked it up at daycare. I find it very disturbing and unacceptable behavior.

It doesn't seem to matter if we're at the store or at home. Whether he's engaged in doing an activity or watching tv. It doesn't matter if I'm spending time with him or by him. He'll just do it!

I'll tell him not to do that with his mouth maybe up to 3 times in a less than 15 minutes!

    Ack...I'm at my wit's end!!!

Any suggestions? If this is a passing phase, it better pass fast.

    Feed him some saltine crackers.

He'll have a hard time gathering drool and spitting it out!

KInd of joking but you never know it may work

Have you looked in his mouth to check for teeth issues?
Maybe he is sprouting some new ones and doesn't really know how to deal with it?

Yep, he's being a toddler! Seriously, I don't think it is an issue and it will pass. They are discovering themselves and also teeth a lot.

I found reverse worked well. Mimic him or tell him to do it really good!!

Does he like a blanket or wash cloth, at least that would clean some of the drool. And don't freak if it is a few weeks or months. New teeth are more likely, it is painful.

Yep, he's a boy. They LOVE spit! Just wait till he learns how to let it run out of his mouth in a stream just to suck it back in just in time before it falls to the floor! My boy is almost 13 now. Boy are so gross sometimes! LOL

Seriously though...I agree with the others. Maybe he's cutting in molars. Some kids have a hard time cutting teeth.

I have 3 kids.. 14,5 & 1. It does not sound like something to be too worried about. I support the cutting of the teeth issue. However, being the mother and using your instincts you can get the best feeling for this. If it continues too long have him checked out. Don't make a big deal out of it.. bringing attention to your concern will just promote him to continue to do it.

My son (now 13!!!) is a nose-picker, talk about gross!!! He's only just now finally starting to grow out of the habit (or at least be more discreet about it). There are just times being a Mother makes you want to gag, lol. I reprimanded too, but sometimes it's a real uphill battle. hope yours outgrows his gross habit quicker than mine did!
