Trixie, that amount scares the hell out of me. I need the same surgery, but with my luck I would probably have to stay awhile. In my case everything is falling out, including things that would have to put back into place. Last year when I saw the doctor she offered a temporary fix that lasted about a week. I guess not having insurance that was all she was willing to do.

When I had my mammogram last year it was supposed to only cost $95.00. By the time I left it was over $600.00 and that was with the cash discount.

If we can bk all of our debt we might be able to afford health insurance. I'm just wondering if they would deny coverage for a pre-existing condition.

I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy. I really thought outpatient is kind of typical, maybe not... I'm glad I did it though! Also, I should say that my doctor has done more of this particular procedure than all but a few doctors in the U.S. so he's pretty good. As for babies, when I had DD 18 years ago, 24 hours, then out of there. When I had DS 15 years ago, I had a tubal ligation 24 hrs after he was born, then 24 hours later was discharged. He was required to be discharged 24 hrs after birth, but the hospital let me "sneak" him into my room since I was having the surgery. I'm seeing a common theme... I must not like hospitals!

nodollars: that's really tough! I hope that you can find insurance that will take care of you. We are really blessed that we have good insurance, I can't imagine how hard it must be to not have such basic care.

I thought it must have been a laparoscopic hysterectomy. That was the only way I could figure. They may be turning into short stay procedures, but not yet here. Although our gyn docs will often make comment about how fast the ladies get turned out after an open. They will jokingly say" call her husband and tell him to back up to the loading dock and she will be out in a few minutes." I think this is their way of coping with insurance companies that dictate the length of stay, rather than the doctors actually treating the patient.

I know that our insurance refuses to cover my Nexium without my doctor calling and pratically begging them for permission to write the script. They say there are over the counter alternatives available. I have been trying play along with them and survive on these OTC alternatives and am giving the prilosec a month before I go back and beg my doctor to get the Nexium approved.
