Where oh where has lightening gone?

Regarding Lightening,
Well, folks, everyone is entitled to their opinion - even Lightening...
Most of us just don't agree with his way of presenting his "point of view".....
He can be very insulting at times, and almost personal in his insults, and statements.
BUT HE DOES HAVE A POINT about a "lot of things". AND AT TIME he offers very informative and constructive facts that would and can help improve our financial affairs.
Most of us are here due to our own handling of our affairs....some are due to major medical problems we have encountered. None of us are here because this is where we wanted to be.
We are here for the "moral support" and guidance thru the bankruptcy process that others can offer us.
If we cannot accept his criticism (no matter how blunt or without compassion), then we need to re-evaluate why we had to file bankruptcy to begin with......
Don't misunderstand me - I'm not taking "sides" with Lightening, (just pointing out that he does have much information to offer for restructuring our lives) even though he has a "rough way" of presenting it to us.

I agree COMPLETELY. However, this board was fashioned for those of us seeking advice before and after bankruptcy. Underneath his abrasiveness, he has some very good points, however, I feel that unless he has walked a mile in our shoes (filed bankruptcy, had financial hardship) then he should take his holier than thou attitude to Perfect Land, and live there.

I too have wondered if he ever filed BK or if he is just on this forum to talk about his abilities and successes in the financial world...
Constructive criticizm never "hurt anyone"...... but it can be done with "respect, tact and kindness" as you offer your constructive suggestons on ways to cure the financial problem in the future...
Lightening has "lightened up" a little over the weeks.
Also, he is "not" very supportive to people who file bankruptcy... (quick to anaylize thier situtation) with ways they could have prevented it...
But he is entitled to his opinions, AND his opinion DOES GET OUR ATTENTION.
It would be GREAT if he knew as much about filing BK as he does about improving our financial affairs........ think of the SUPPORT and SUGGESTIONS that he he could offer this forum!!

I agree...he does give good information, but its hard to put that info to use after the way he presents it. I found myself skipping over good info, because i was offended by some things he said. I imagine it can be frustrating to see how we (bk filing) got into our situations, but nonetheless, those situations are there, and to demean someone or to come across that way (whether intended or not)is NOT the way to go. When i was a Case Mgr i always kept this motto posted in my office. "Treat Others as You Would Want to Be Treated". I always followed that advise, because, one day i could of been that person on the other side of the desk.

Good luck getting Lightning to "lighten up."

He or she seems to be enjoying messing with the deadbeats (us). I really think that is how Lightning perceives us, as deadbeat debtors who are milking the law for our benefit and making people like him/her pay more in interest rates as a result. The reverse is actually true.
I've done my homework on this one, and it is amazing how much money the banking and credit card industry is making today, with deregulated rates and interest schemes, plus charges that they can now put on us for everything from overdrafts to late charges. The rules are in the favor of banking, not in favor of the consumer. Every business has some loss factored in -- so I don't feel guilty about being on the end of causing them some loss. The current situation in this country has contributed to MY loss -- so what goes around comes around. I'm talking about lack of inexpensive health care and benefits for unemployed people, and predatory practices by lenders.
And Lightning, don't you dare jump down my throat for what I just said, or I will hunt you down and stomp on your threads. (LOL)

He does not offer much in the way of information I can use relevent to the process. He strikes me as looking for a podium, or a soap box, for his own agenda or personal experience. You know the saying: Pride comes before a fall.

I read as many posts as I could to try and find out whether Lightening is a man or woman. In all honesty, I figured it was a woman. However, most people refer to Lightening as a man. It really doesn't matter because some advice given has been enLightening and some not so much. Just an observation from a person thankful for this forum.

I started this thread because I was curious as to where lightening had been. I also thought, (god forgive me) that maybe he would answer a few questions himself (generically meant)
What does he do?
Has he ever filed?
Has someone filed bankruptcy against him?
Does he have any friends?
Does he have a life?

Several of us have felt the need to explain how/why we got in the predictment of filing. I don't want/mean to "belittle" anyone but I am the only person that has to live with me (walk in my shoes). I guess that I don't want to be stepped on while I am down or see that happen to anyone else.
I really try and treat people the way I would like to be treated and I am "the biggest devil's advocate at my office", and considering my job and I don't generally deal with the finest most upstanding people in the community, they are still people and have very real feelings.
I know my feelings are still very raw and tender even though we have gotten our discharge.
The place that built our home filed bankruptcy right after the purchase, I am having to correct many things because we have no other recourse. All my windows need replacing, my house is only 5 years old. Where I live has had 5 major storms in as many years and experienced major flooding during this same time frame. Lightening hit my home (not just as a contributor either, literally) last year, sure I have insurance, that doesn't cover nearly everything. We were upside down on one vehicle and my car had 200,000 plus miles on it and is 15 years old. My husband had a heart attack. My son injured in a car wreck that he was a passenger in. My mother lives with us and has had 3 major surgeries. All this in the last five years (those are just the highlights, I could list until I fall asleep) I don't want sympathy or the collection plate, but empathy goes a long way and doesn't cost anybody anything.
If lightening wants to preach go to CNN.
If he wants to help, then he can do it in a constuctive manner.

When I have to stand in judgment at the end of life, it is going to be ME and me alone. Not you, not Lightening, my sister, or anyone else will be there. They'll get their own.
