Hint, it was the first true big budget and I might add had GREAT Sci-Fi Film of the 50's... Had an excellent plot and story and is still available on DVD...
and what handsome, young, future star of three Naked Gun Movies had one of the primary roles... now that is a giveaway...

Another Sci-fi if you can take, you may guessed I am a Sci-Fi nut...
What 1966 film took place on Mars and showed many of us our first glimpse of a VCR including the videotape, the movie had cheesy special effects but was WELL thought out and well written. The stranded Navy Lt. also found a cave and did his own mini version of terraforming to release oxygen from the rocks in his underground cave... superb, cheesy but way ahead in thinking.
What film was it...
Remember NO peeking on the net.

I became a Sci-Fi nut the first time I saw Star Trek in 66' and from countless monster movies in the 60's.
My dad took me to the Cape in the 60's and that sealed it forever. I've still got the pictures, we had to where a suit and tie and my dad thought it remarkable (NOT WASTEFUL) that it cost 24 billion to get to the moon!

I must confess-I wasn't born until after the 60's & I'm not a sci fi buff. Great idea though!

How funny! We just watched this movie this past week-end!! It was "Forbidden Planet"...and even though my husband is the HUGE sci-fan of the house, I actually found I didn't fall asleep in it! Yes Leslie Nielsen did have a different hair color back then didn't he?
Watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy yesterday-does that qualify as Sci Fi? It was funny. (I never read the book but DH did.) My 4 year old sat w/ me and I didn't realize that she was REALLY watching it til it was over, the credits started rolling and she started applauding. I was curious-thought I'd test her so I asked what her favorite part was. She said it was when Marvin saved everyone. (Marvin was a depressed robot.)

Forbidden planet had an excellent plot and the sets were beautiful. On DVD the quality is better than AMC. Great Movie. Lesli Nielsen had a good part.
Roby was a rather risque, very adult Robot. It is amazing how well they conveyed the idea of sex or crime in those movies without getting graphic. That in itself is an art.
