    Pythons in the Glades!!!

Any fellow Floridians see the pic of that Python that tried to swallow the 6 ft. Alligator? He exploded! Somewhere around here one just swallowed a houecat, they caught him though. Seems we have some sort of "fast breeding" foreign Pythons that have been cut loose in the Glades, near homes and they are breeding like crazy. Feed 'em those stinking Muscovy ducks! Then the pythons'll be all our friends.

Back in 93' (post Andrew Days)we lived one year of hell in a "nice" (looked nice on Sunday) apartment complex. My boys were small and used to chase the Muscovies. One sour ol' bitty took a dislike to this and complained and the manager threatened to call the cops. I confronted the old hog (she was) and the manager and explained that these ducks are "NOT" protected. They are feral livestock, not native to Florida or the US but to Brazil and can even be killed under Florida law the only stipulation being "humanely and in accordance with local ordinances". A little education paid off, as did me asking her and the manager why, since they were so anxious to bother the Police about a four year old boy chasing ducks and laughing, didn't they bother to call them about all the illegal crap that the other inhabitants of the buildings were doing. "Are you so gutsy with what you percieve to be a nice decent family and so scared of some the illegals and obvious criminals living here"? I told him the next I see anything go on here I'm calling you (the manager) and you are going to call the Cops. He got real scared then, never heard a peep from him. I moved into my house in Sunrise just before the lease expired so thankfully I didn't have to renew the lease.

      I saw that photo!

I hope those snakes don't migrate to the west coast by me! Who knows what really resides in the everglades! How is Sunrise these days? I haven't been over there in years. My family used to have a condo over off Oakland and Pine Island. Then it got way built up into the swamp.

They put Sawgrass Mills Mall and have connected Hialeh to Weston/Bonaventure, UNFORTUNATELY. Since becoming immersed in bad driving and 10 year old Toyotas it is not the same. You Parents lived in Sunrise Lakes which is a nice place.

I live one block north of Hiatus and Oakland Park Blvd. I used to live in Sunrise Manor North. It is still and will remain a very nice community for a long time, but it is getting congested. The seventies, eighties and early nineties days of a nice, small town are gone. Crime is low, break-ins as always are unheard of and Police presence is strong as always. Alot of Cops from Dade and Broward Cities live up here. It is still a nice town, political hijinx are still plentiful but not as colorful as Mayor Lomelo the crooked, most available, get things done guy who was loved by many. Remember the days of one squad car using 47 tires in a year!? It is still a nice haven for small business. Motorola, which was the main employer is trimming down and i believe no production lines remain. I still love Sunrise, but i'm sentimental and even love Miami still. My boys are North Miami born so we still have some partiality.

I'll fill in some more when time is available.

And as always, still lots of gators in all the Canals. Sunrise and welleby are VERY pricey now. Remember Plantation Acres, when "idiots" bought lots in the area for $5000.00??????? In the eighties!!!!1 A home there STARTS at a little over one million now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!

Amislander, do you remember the 75 x 100 two bedroom homes by the Farm Store at 25th court and university. seven years ago the went in the eighties. Try rouching one for under 290,000.00 now. The "experts" are predicting that rises in values may slow but will still go higher in the coming years. We are out of land and people are filing in every day. the Horse stables and acreage are still ok at Pine Island & Oakland Park. The cows are still there at 44st and Hiatus, just up from me, but they will be going soon. Hiatus Road is going through. We fought it since 1995 but these big roads tend to move the "blight" faster.

To add it to it all Sunrise finally settled its dispute with Lennar over the faulty waterpipes and got ALOT of land across from the Mall in the settlement. Some was sold and now a Venetian style community is going up half a mile from me at Flamingo and 136 avenue. They presold 1256 square foot units at $259,000.00 each and now they are still under construction and are selling for over 400,000.00 with a monthly fee of $709.00. The community there is awesome. Venezuelans are buying them like crazy, they don't understand markets here. It is doubtful that prices will go down, we ARE out of land. The rest is the Glades and is untouchable. The large influx of third world money means that by the time i retire Sunrise will be unliveable for most Americans. Sorry to offend but i have thirty years experience in watching nice, quiet communities get overrun. Standards decrease, price increase, theft increases and expectations for the community become very low and like once lovely Coral Gables vacant lots become trash dumps and Police calls go up because of "I'm gonna' do what I'm gonna do" mentality. In other words, blaring bongo music at 9 am on Saturday. But, God willing I'll be gone. Sorry to offend, but it is the truth, I've lived it in Dade County, left it, watched it destroy once nice communities like Sweetwater, Hialeah and North Miami and North Miami Beach. And I do mean destroy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will always love Miami because it was once a nice home. I used to cut lawns with my old neighbor in Liberty City ate at Jimmy's on 7 ave and the Bar BQ Barn at 7th and 107th. I saw my County, my town and my neighborhood destroyed in a decade. Dade County isn't fit to live in and is now the poorest County in the Country with a population of over one million and Miami is now the poorest City in America with a population of over 350,000. Graffitti is everywhere. Miami-Dade County is ranked as having the "lowest quality of life" in the US. I forget where this came from, I believe it was attached to the census and it was the reason for a big article in the Herald and the New Times. I remember one politician actually said, "if you think it's bad you have to understand where they came from". So, rasther than raise the standards of the people we'll just excuse the decline...

In 1980 Biscayne Park Florida made news with the lowest crime rate in America. It is in the Guinness Book for that year with a picture of the Log Cabin Police Dept. Dear old Mayor Ed Burke of Bisc. Park always driving around North Miami (BP was connected to us) in 50' Mercedes convertible. I WOULDN'T WALK THROUGHT IT IN DAYLITE NOW...
