Any Miami Dade Employees out there?

I know from some of the talk I have some brothers and sisters in this Forum. Just your thoughts on the hit, mine is 12% total plus the loss of 17k in overtime this last year. $43 flex dollars, $50 bi-weekly bonus/hourly rate adjustment, $125 paycut bi-weekly and $1800 (27 years) yearly longevity.

In spite of that our Mayor handed out hefty raises to his staff and 36 high ranking PD Officials. I believe that someone (he was the Chief) threatened to carry some dirt to the Herald unless he ponied up, somewhere lurks that 37th Cop who didn't get his money. He challenged the Herald reporter to come and get him, remember when Nixon did that????? You don't "F" with the Herald.

My cost $7400 per year. period.

Any thoughts fellow laborers?

Lt me make one thing clear. I have also worked in private Industry at dealers and such both pre-County and part time. I've worked harder at the County and sweated more and have found that work ethic is a personal and not a communal deal. I have seen laziness outside of Governement on an equal scale.

Wow, considering the Mayor's official letter to employees only went out at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, and he only mentioned "recommendations", you seem to have your specifics down pat! Could it be that you're going through sleepless nights doing the math? Yes, your particular situation sounds pretty grim. I knew that most overtime had been targeted for cut off over the past two years. I'm sorry it hit you so deeply in your pockets -- $17K is a lot of money!

I am a salaried (no overtime) lower level manager and I have less than 10 years seniority with the county, having always worked in the private sector before that. My salary will be cut by at least 5% and my flex dollars will disappear as well. I don't get longevity pay due to my lack of seniority. Whatever it is, it's going to be very ugly for me too because I'm a single woman with an upside down condo and no other source of income at this time. Thankfully I have no debts besides my mortgage but any kind of pay cut will hurt because my budget is so strict. Because I'm salaried rather than hourly I have been working a minimum of 55 hours a week with no additional compensation because of this new project our department is embarked on (you know what it is). I don't mind the extra work without pay because it would be worse to have no job at all, but maybe the exhausting schedule makes me super sensitive and resentful about the "minimum 5%" pay cut we are all facing.

Please, don't get me going on the mayor and the commissioners and the pay raises (up to 54%!!!!!!!) to their privileged employees. How did you like the commission chair shutting up any resident who came to the podium and dared mention the raises?

These are very difficult times at Miami Dade County Government. And nothing is expected to get better any time soon. In fact, budget year 2010-2011 is expected to be even heavier with the cuts.

All we can do is hang in there, hope for the best, and continue doing our jobs with dedication. I wish you and yours the best.

I have about 400k in FRS Investment so far so I won't die. I have kept up with everything and our Superintendents had all the specifics AM Friday. I knew the exact deal several months ago. It was a hunch but I heard it in the wind and in 27 years my hunches have usually been to the penny. I know my bonuses and pay and understood clearly the Mayors intenet from the get-go.

If all else fails I will retire shortly. I have alot of time here and am fairly wise to what is coming. Shepherd your investments well. My wife is in FRS and has continually done very well, she handles mine also. Our lowest quarterly return at the bleakest time was 4.22%. We have a plan, like the Cylons (a little BSG humor)!

different day, when I closed on my home in 2001 I bought my truck that day. My Credit rating was 770, wow. What a difference paycuts make. Did you see some of the overfunded stupid programs that they hatcheted our families to keep. People who will never contribute will recieve benefits while parents of viable, hopeful members of society were hammered. Glad my boys are grown.

Lots of people in our department are taking early retirement. I think they're being literally pushed into it through subtle and not so subtle changes in their working conditions. Of course I'm talking about management, not TWU employees.
