We had our mechanic go over it before we bought it. Mechanic's wife and grandkids all drive old Camaros too. He said that the Camaro was built with a 300,000 mile drive train. "Take care of it and it will take care of you for several years to come.", he said. And it has so far. It's been very reliable with no major repairs.

You were lucky...most camaros/irocs & trans ams are abused & "suped up"...I used to have an '85 trans am with t-tops...but my x changed the compter chip, put headers on...then at same time we had an '88 Iroc z28...w/headers, chips changed etc...Robvi??? would this be a good car for me or should I stick to the 'stang?

Plus, now that I'm discharged...still waiting for them to appraise the 4runner...can I buy something else & have it be in my name (FL exemption is $1k)?

I'm sorry, I'm pretty much a GM person and can't badmouth Firebirds, Camaros or Corsica's. My Corsy is pumping along at 140,000 miles and is in excellent condition, nothing jumped, everything fixed when it broke. I don't recommend used Corsy's though, most are trashed. Don't stick to just one type of vehicle. I have alot of good to say about Camry's. Every make has it's downside, Japanese manufacture included. I know afew guys who work at a Nissan dealer in Hollywood, they hate them. My father-in-law put 300,000 on his Nissan 200sx and has 275,000 on his truck, he swears by them. My sister-in-laws Nissan has 130,000 with only normal maintenance and a starter.

For me, the Mustang was an easy to maintain vehicle in the four cylinder. It is cheap to fix, you may find a nice one. It can be a good beater, I say beater because my Corsy still looks very nice, has AC but it is old, therefore a beater. When the rocks fleck from the dump trucks i don't cry like I do with my truck.

Florida's motor vehicle exemption is 1k in any motor vehicle, my Corsica at the time was about 3200.00 KBB. The Trustee gave up on me, no joke because we were going to duke it out over value. I gat a man locally who does IRS appraisals to appraise the Truck and Corsica and did a Carmax offer and came in just under what was owed on the Truck, the Corica they offered around 1600.00. Can you get the vehicle to Carmax, can you afford to tow it there and home, let them make you an offer? They give it in writing. You need to ask if they will offer on a non running vehicle. I also picked the most trashed Corsy's i could find at Autotrader.com locally and sent all this to the Trustee through my lawyer. My case was at first an asset case, we had depo's, hearings, etc... Attorneywise i was really blessed, the man is an outstanding person, like I say he was a "Ben Cartwright horse country dirty F350 guy" with morals, unusual for a lawyer. He was the only one i interviwed who did NOT suggest I pull any stunts other than pay all bills (which doesn't qualify for a "stunt") before i filed so that the account would be empty.

The Trustee is after money, I am forgetting that you wish to be rid of the vehicle, so your probably just going to let it go. It doesn't run, a plus. Remember one thing, he has to PAY someone to retrieve and sell it, they may refuse it. Be careful also about surrendering items, we bluffed, it worked, believe me, I was way over. The truth is the Trustee is after MONEY, we offered to let him pick everything up, underwear, clothes, shoes, furniture, but remember sir that some of the belongings are subject to a lean...

a beater, by any other name...

        is a hoopty!

There's tons of mustangs in the Bradenton/Sarasota area to choose from...called my attorney...being as I'm discharged, he said they might not want the 4runner...I'm still awaiting being closed but I have the notic to creditors which ends on 2/27 so I figure I've got to wait till then to do anything about my car situation...the Jag is not comfortable to sit/get in and out of....or maybe I'm just not used to being so low to the ground?

They can't find anything wrong with the 4runner at the shop...maybe it's just preparing in case of an appraiser coming to see it...? Watch, I just don't want to be somewhere and have it not start...what does all this mean? maybe because the check engine light's been on for a year & screwing up the computer?

Hard to say. Not running is a big deal. I was right side up in every way and they just dropped the ball as we were called before the Judge. They were coming for everything. I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack so maybe being dumb enough to bluff paid off.

Son wanted to do that. Change the chip, etc. We tried to talk him out of it. But you know kids. Are parents ever right??

Son was at the shop one day for an oil change, chatting with our mechanic. Son told him what he wanted to do with the car. Thank goodness, son listened to the mechanic. Mechanic told him it would screw with the timing, or something, and ultimately ruin the engine. It's totally original. No chip changes.

Son wanted to take it the High School drags. Mechanic talked him outa that too. Told him it was too easy to blow the engine, so son didn't race it. Of course, we'd told him the same thing. But,......... It's a good thing son listened to our mechanic!!

                  4runner is home!

Oh, boy...I never realized how high up I was in the SUV than coming from low down in a car...there is a difference...Robvi, I had looked up a few of your posts from way back and you had mentioned something about trustees wanting things over $10K...if that is possible, then, when I gave the trustee a laundry list of repairs that were necessary, maybe, combined with my mom's lien of $5K on the truck, he may feel that it's not worth his while to deal with the 4runner and maybe my case was changed from "no asset" to "asset" just because they could take my income tax refund and were contemplating the vehicle?

Well, the guessing game should be over by 2/27...or at least when I check pacer a week from then to see what's been registered.

I just keep reading our "keels and wheels" little auto paper to see if any little beater comes up that looks good...

I would really love to get back into an '89 Mitsubishi Starion...that was my favorite car...it just didn't fit the baby car seats very well...no car seats now!

                    Amislander,
Also remember if your mom has a valid lien on the vehicle involved, the Trustee has to take her to court to dissolve her interest in the the vehicle... that will cost him filing fees, court cost, and his own time....
May not be worth it too him, especially with all the repairs needed....
Hope you get to keep it.....

I guess the lein can't be any more valid than being on the title for over a year prior to my filing bk?!

Mechanic said the starting problem needs to get worse before they can do anything, it started fine all weekend.

Yes, Minnie, all the costs that are going to be involved may not be worth it. I hope I get to keep it, too. It felt so good to drive it home last night.

I usually check Pacer on every Monday just to see if anything with my discharge has changed.
