    Preferred cellphones?

My contract is up and I'm looking for a new cell phone. I'm sticking with Alltel as the service works fine out on the islands with the exception of one dead space which affects everyone w/cells.

Anyone love their phone to death & wouldn't trade it for anything?

I currently have a kyrocera w/clip...new model is bumble bee colored...it's over 2 yrs old...wore out, used as a weapon, has broken windows, atenna just fell out over the weekend...clip bused off...served me well...

I think I paid $150 for it since it was the third time I got it wet at beach & had no choice...but I'm kinda tired of it...

The razor is looking good & price is not bad w/2yr contract which I'm getting anyhow...can have phone price put into cell bill....

    any thoughts?

You can get them free now. On those sites like www.wirefly.com and www.letstalk.com ......although the rebates are kind of tricky. You only can send the rebate in like 90 days later or something like that and you have to send it within a certain time they give you.. can't postmark before a certain date or after a certain date.

A lot of people use it, you just have to make sure that you do the rebate right, which is where they make their money because I'm sure others forget. Personally I'm a Nextel guy. I love nextel :P. But since you are going to do a 2 year or 1 year plan like you said, those sites are pretty cool cause they have really cheap phones (usually free)..the kind that JUST came out even after the razor cost a few bucks but you know. The catch is the rebate you just have to make sure you do it in time

Yeah, I'm a bit hesitant to go free w/razor as then I have to change carriers and I like alltel....what to do; what to do?

Alltell around here sucks. As does T-Mobile. Everything else is fine though. I just like nextel because most of my conversations aren't long, so I just beep people to talk, and it's free (doesn't use minutes..with my plan at least). However those sites have alot of cool phones, just make sure the rebate gets in! lol.

We have Sprint-and are very happy with our service & plan. For Dh & I, we pay about $57 per month for 1000 minutes (includes free nights, weekends, and other Sprint calls.) It does not include roaming, but we haven't left our calling area in the nearly 2 years that we've had them.

I have noticed that they no longer offer the 1000 minutes plan. I've confirmed that we can continue without renewing on the plan we have-and we'll do that most likely as their current plans are more expensive.

Been using Tracphone for 2 years - emergencies only!! Cheap plan, cost $89.00 a year for access and get 4 hours of talk time, most of it rolls over each year....

Course I only use it for emergencies, not daily chit-chat...

Cheap way to have a cellphone when I'm out and about!!

My boss at work has nextel but again, it goes in/out alot on the island...one of our friends got the Metro PC, great phone, cheap..50.00/mo. but it does not work on our island.

My boyfriend thinks I'm nuts for wanting the razor...he doesn't think I'll use all the options...

going to look at phones tomorrow and getting a new one on Thursday, payday!

Yeah some places nextel doesn't get the best service, but now that they are with sprint from what I've heard they will be using sprints towers as well in the future. Metro is good for bigger cities, but other than that it sucks because well it's meant for big cities lol. As far as the razor goes, cool phone and I doubt everyone uses all the options on the phone.. but it's cool to have just incase :P

We don't have a home phone, and don't use much of our cell minutes these days. Most of the talking on the phone is between Dh & I, or on the weekends. I just looked up our usage-and we haven't used any of the 1000 minutes for this month and the cycle ends on the 17th.

We have Sprint due to all family is long distance and Sprint is only one that goes to all the areas.

When we were on the Outer Banks, years back, I couldn't call. Sprint had no service there at all. May be different now. Dunno. That may be a problem for you out on the Islands.

Sprint still has "black holes" of service. You can loose connection walking around inside your house. Drive thru a dip in the road and hear Klingon on the phone or the call drops. No service inside some buildings, like when we are at the school for a function.

Still, with all the problems, we can call family and no monthly long distance charges. I've kept my old cell phone number from Missouri for while we are selling the house. Friends and the Real Estate people can call us with no long distance charges for them.

I loved AT&T. They sold to Cingular. Should be called "Thirdrateular". Crummy phones, lousy service. At&t was always willing to thrown in a couple of months here and there and had great promo's. Cingular srvice in SoFla sucks like crazy.

4 phones, 1100 minutes anytime with rollover, we have about 75 rollover mins. on average each month. Unlimited all the yadayada rest. AT&T nights were 7pm to 6 am. Cingular Customer Service is faster than AT&T but they don't sweeten the pot when you call for support. I loved AT&T, they would always offer different things if you upgrade, extend, etc... If they come back, I'll leave Cingular in a heartbeat.

My Motorola v180 (Craparola v"you should do a" 180 if they offer you this awful phone) died this week, they are sending another Craparola (they are now made in Malaysia, not here in Sunrise, Florida anymore, so you know what i really think of those bastards at Craparola). Our City catered to them for years to keep jobs here, GOOD PAYING JOBS and they deserted us. Most of my neighbors are still there, but they are in testing or R&D, not manufacturing. Who will pay for their freaking products when all the jobs are shipped out? I realize that there is a symbiosis, more jobs are created on the service end as capacity grows, but not as fast as they are lost.

T-mobile sucks and I hate them. But for pre-paid, thats who I use now. No contracts or bills. It comes out to 10 cents a minute. I'd only use a plan if I used alot of minutes.

The best cell phone for someone who just uses it for normal daily business stuff, and doesn't plan on staying on the phone for hour after hour would be net10 prepaid. It costs only 10 cents a minute, and your unused minutes roll over from month to month. There's no credit check and you can pay for it with cash. It costs me about $15 per month, and I'm rolling over unused minutes every month. My girlfriend lives with me, so I don't spend much time talking to her on my cell phone.

Oh, and another thing. Net10 seems to have the best coverage of any cell phone I or my friends have ever used. I recently drove from Phoenix, Arizona to Eugene, Oregon to visit my parents, and I went through some really desolate and unpopulated areas in Nevada and it never even dropped a single call.

"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."

I've been with verizon for the last 4 years....its just kinda sad how verizon doesnt offer any "good" phone upgrade options for thier existing customers! The the $100 credit option, that can be used as an alternative toward the new every 22 months gimmick is medicore....

I'm going to stick with my Alltel service...

...now I just have to figure out if I want to go flip model or non flip...we have to actually leave the island to get a new phone...I know that sounds harsh, but with the nice weather lately, there's a line of traffic getting on/off...we have pipelines laying out at the beach which haven't pumped sand in months and now they've started construction on one of our through ways to the beach...we have only 2 roads on/off...it's not pleasant between construction zones...which, is why I'm still making do w/a phone that's about to fall apart...I have a Kyocera 3250 at the moment...battery is about shot, atenna keeps popping off, clip broke...it's been through it...
