My Daughter is a Life Saver!!

Daughter came out of school one afternoon, headed to her car, when she saw a woman collapsed in the parking lot.

The woman was coming to work as a fill in janitor on second shift. Evidently she had a really bad chest cold, pretty bad asthma, and when she got out of her car, the extremely cold, dry air literally took her breathe away.

Daughter is Certified in rescue techniques. Red Cross training. Immediately checked the woman. Not breating, no heart beat, faint, thready pulse.

Daughter did CPR to get the woman resuccetated, rolled her on her side to clear the airway. Evidently when the woman started breathing again, she cleared a bunch of mucus that had been blocking her airway. Daughter got assistance for someone to call 911, and stayed with the woman until the ambulance arrived. While she waited, she borrowed coats from kids and teachers that had come out in the mean time to cover the woman and get her as warm as possible.

Daughter came home beaming with joy!! She was so thrilled to have helped someone in such dire need.

I asked her how it felt as she was working with this lady. What was running thru her mind. Daughter said she didn't even think. She just went thru her training steps and did everything she needed to do automatically. Reacting as each situation came up to help get the lady's heart and breathing started again. She knew what she needed to do. Since she didn't know how long the lady had laid there, daughter knew she needed to act quick.

    We are so proud!!

Thats awesome sinking! We need more people like that. Its sad how many times things like that happen and people just stand there and stare at someone dying or just keep walking past.

CONGRADS TO THE DAUGHTER..... she should be VERY PROUD - "SHE HAS MADE A DIFFERENCE"..... she may have very well saved the womans life and prevented a terrible loss for a family....

Being asthmatic I can fully understand what happened to the woman.... I've seen cold mornings when I dreaded heading for the car because I knew I was going to have an episode and no one around.... SCARY.....

Our office requires CPR training every year (being a public office)..... We've never had to use it - but we all know how for safety's sake.

We are all getting to an age to who knows what might happen. Two in our office have had heart attacks at home after they left work. So a body never knows what the future brings!!!

Thank God your daughter SAW THE NEED, and ANSWERED THE CALL to help that woman.... children could be minus a momma and a husband minus a spouse....

YES - SHE DONE "VERY GOOD"!!!!!

Their old High School, where we moved from, had a Student Athletic Trainer program. She learned all kinds of neat things. Physical therapy and stuff like that. They taught them CPR and emergency care tips. There were 2 girls. Daughter and another chick I'll call Brenda (not real name). This Student Athletic Trainer program is an extra curricular activity. The kids are doing this like playing a sport or being on the Chess team or whatever.

Brenda moved as well at the end of the school year. To another state also. One day, in class at her new school, her History teacher just dropped to the floor in the middle of a sentence at the chalk board. Brenda rushed up to check on Teach. No pulse, not breathing, no heartbeat. She starts CPR. One of the kids runs to get a Teacher from next door. They call 911, get an ambulance there in less than 15 minutes. The whole time Brenda is doing CPR. Doesn't stop.

The History Teacher had suffered Sudden Cardiac Death. That's a HUGE heart attack. People usually do not recover. History Teacher woulda been dead today if Brenda hadn't been in his class. Because Brenda was there and knew what to do, and started CPR IMMEDIATELY, the History Teacher is alive and well today.

Our daughter's story isn't as exciting, but she was thrilled none the less.

She said she did think, after the ambulance left, "What if that had been my Mom. I would want for someone to help her."

It's a nice feeling knowing you make a difference in the world in some small way.

Congratulations!! As a mother of two teenagers, I know well the joys and frustrations of parenting. I know you are so proud of her!! It is obvious that you have instilled the values of kindness, compassion, and mercy into her. Great job!!

You wonder why people just watch or walk past? Because of law suits. It's so easy to sue for things so people don't want to help. The "good samaritan" laws don't really help people as much as some might think.

Tort lawsuits are a big pain in the butt sometimes.

Congrats though Sinking ;) sounds like a nice girl

She's actually "Legally" covered there. Since she's been Certed by the Red Cross, the Good Samaratan Act covers her.

Not that she even thought about that. She was just so into getting that lady breathing again she didn't even think.

We are truely blessed to have good kids.

Actually not necessarily. There have been many cases where doctors will help people when they were off work and have been sued because they caused different problems or just so many different things. That's the thing about the samaritan act, it's not as good as it is meant to be.. needs a lot of fixing because there are too many loopholes in it.

That's why a lot of times doctors won't help people that are hurt. Malpractice lawsuits are expensiveeeeeeeeee. Sad that's how it works but .. it does

Now I doubt the woman would sue your daughter especially if she helped her.. but there are so many suing bastards for the little things now days you have to be on your toes.
