    computer question

My husband's fire dept bought a new computer and he scored the old one for us. It is a lot faster and better but I am having a problem with Microsoft Money, and wonder if anyone here can advise me as to how to fix my problem.
I have been using Money for at least 4 years, and have moved up to needing 2 floppies to back up my files. After installing money on the new 'puter, I attempted to import my backup files. The program reads the first floppy and asks me to insert the second one. After a minute or so, it asks me to insert the 2nd one, again. And again, as long as I continue to click on ok. When I try to run the floppy, it will tell me that the floppy hasn't been formatted, do I want to format it. It only does this with the 2nd floppy. I even went back and made another copy of my backup file. Again the first floppy works, the second does not.
Any advice? I hate to lose all this info. Oh, and I tried to copy onto a CD, and when I attempted to read it, it comes up with unknown pathname or file format or something- but I dadgum sure don't know how to use the cd burner properly.

If you have your old computer, or access to another computer, you might try using a jump drive. It's a new fangled memory stick with much larger memory capacity than floppys have. Jump drives plug into the USB ports on computers. You can buy them at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, just about any where. My kids use those now instead of CD's or floppys for school projects and sharing music, and such.

Try copying your files from the floppys over onto a jump drive. Then try using the jump drive to load your files onto the new computer.

Hopefully, your 2nd floppy isn't corrupted in some way that won't allow the files to copy over.

Hubby has a jump drive(dell) that he brought home, intending for me to be able to copy onto it. My computer seems to be so old that it wouldn't work. My old computer asked for the driver software to install the jump drive.

I have wondered if the age of my computer might have something to do with my problem. It runs Windows 98. The new computer runs XP

Could be your Windows 98 is 16 bit code and the XP is 32 bit code. I remember when we upgraded 98 it asked if we wanted to go to 32 bit code.

That may be your problem transferring data. ??!!

Chances are you #2 disk is bad. Replace it with a new disk if you have one and try to back-up again.

As far as running the jump drive on 98, you will have to install the software for it. USB devices aren't native to 98 although it will work with the proper software. I'm sure if you don't have the software you can download it from Dell's website.

Go figure the chances of having 2 floppies being bad. And the additional coincidence of it being the 2nd disk in both instances. I looked through my floppies and got 2 that were both empty, put them in the new computer to make sure it would read them. Then backed up again- this time it worked like a charm. The only puzzling thing to me is that today when I backed up, it only wanted 1 floppy. I have been needing a second for months. Oh, wait a minute--- this instant it hit me. I have been using money since 00. When I first set it up, I didn't really know what I was doing, so I eventually just started a fresh file. This file was still on the first backup floppy. So that is why I didn't need 2 this time.
Thanks so much for the advice.
