Fantastic news, TRR!! Agree with those who have already advised to leave under the best circumstances possible - you never know what the future will bring. No matter when you tell them, your current company's major reaction will be happiness that their job of getting rid of you is already accomplished and they didn't have to waste any resources to do it (insert head shake here).

Do you have COBRA to cover you between leaving this job and the 30-day wait for your new health insurance to kick in? Lots of bad stuff can happen in 30 days....

We are all thrilled for you - best of luck in your new position!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

Wish them well, say good luck and by any means don't feel obligated to explain anything to them if they try to take a personal approach and ask why. With the history of the layoffs already, they should understand.
I like CH's idea of slowly gathering your personal things and slipping them out. Maybe take a larger bag or tote with you to work instead of your usual purse. A little along during the day, take this item or that off your desk. Slip items in thruout the day.

Since you expect and have experienced some drama when others have been laid-off, I don't know that I'd even go back when a number of fellow coworkers are not there to witness what may happen. If it's just your boss and a supporter or 2 of his/hers, they can say anything they want that you supposedly did or said. Maybe leave as normal, only leave a note laying on your desk that they'll find the next day when you don't show up to work.

        I did this today actually.

I was getting verbally harassed by other staff members a lot today, so at about 3 PM, I had had it. My boss was out of the office (as usual... playing golf.... who knows what) I slowly started taking things out to my car, and at 5, I took the remainder out, left my keys, passwords, and a letter of resignation (VERY polite I might add) and walked out. I couldn't believe how relieved I am.

So if they call me tomorrow what should I say? We have at-will employment here in MI, so technically, they have no reason whatsoever to call me....

You could just screen your calls with Caller ID or your answering machine. Pick up when you know who it is AND if it's someone you want to talk to.

Better yet,............ Take care of some details for the wedding. or,.......... Treat yourself to a day "window shopping" at the mall.

Stay out and stay busy. Hide away, sorta, from the phone. Can't answer if you aren't there when they call.

If they have your cell number, forward ALL of your calls direct to your voicemail. Then check it periodically thruout the day. Call back the people you need to and ignore the rest.

Enjoy your couple of days of "vacation" before the new job begins.

Good suggestions. I have some thank you cards to write, and I would like to do some scrapbooking, and start adding more wedding stuff to it!

            What a relief.
I slept in this morning until 8:30... it was soooo nice.

Speaking of wedding things... we have our engagement picture do overs tonight. That should be fun!

              Way to go Tin

Good luck with your new job.
When it all boils down to it, its just numbers! Your credit score, your interest rate, your bank account, and your net worth if you're fortunate enough to have one......is your happiness really defined by numbers?

Congrats, Tin! Dh has been deliberately ostracized by a former employer because they mistook something he wrote in a letter of resignation. It got REAL ugly! Fortunately he is in a position now that he loves and plans to stay there! Meanwhile I am looking as I'm not sure how long the funding for my contract will last!

Good luck in your new job and with the wedding plans.

                  Thank you everyone!

I went and met with my new manager today, and I couldn't be happier with the decision that I made.

I truly feel blessed, and am very excited to have this opportunity.

                  I can't wait!

I will give a full report on Monday morning.
