    Under Water

Ohio was hit hard with Severe T-Storms on Wednesday and Thursday and the rain fall in some areas is up to 10 inches. Many areas are flooded, including my area. Many roads are closed, homes under water, business' closed and people have been stranded. A brave fireman lost his life saving 2 young teens who were stranded in high, raging water. Think back and remember what New Orleans looked after Hurricane Katrina.........some areas of Northern Ohio don't look much different than that.

Rain showers and storms are expected to continue through Friday......just what the already, heavily flooded areas of Northeast Ohio does not need.

So sorry to hear that Bass...I read about the heroic fireman..I lived in Baton Rouge many years ago and we had hurricanes but nothing obviously of the magnitude of Hurricane Katrina. It is disheartening to read about the people who defrauded the government using funds intended for people who needed them for sex change operations, etc. That is so utterly despicable. We in Tennessee are in dire need of rain and you guys are getting more than you need. I hope your house is okay and the rains finally stop. I can't imagine what you are going through but we are praying for you.

Because you are likely rural, white, and a healthy contributor to society who complains little, sucks little from the system and goes to work everyday you won't get the press that NO got nor the help. Much of Miss. and parts of Ala. & Texas have been largely ignored, just watch the rural farm channel for that.

I'm sorry, but that's just a rant from a died in the wool H/cane veteran in SoFla who has seen and lived it. I am very sorry that you are flooded, I have seen little on local TV here because of the World Cup and the Heat. Are you yourself ok?

If anyone is perturbed by my rant, come down here and live it with me. No apologies, not sorry, put my money where my mouth was for NO after Katrina and will do it again, Operation Blessing unlike the FEDS did help me post Andrew and I love that organization, I love Pat Robertson, those people put the rubber to the road for my family after Andrew. When they want $$$ I know that their trucks are rolling, if they have an Ohio aid section I'll donate tonight. I urge anyone to do the same, those people were their when I was in need.

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Fortunately, we did not get too badly flooded in our house. Our basement windows are below the finish grade and we have those metal wells around them with the drains and 2 of them were blocked and the wells filled up and water was coming through the basement windows. When my wife called me at work to tell me about it, I left work to take care of it. I cleared the wells of the debris (during the t-storm) and covered them with tarps to keep the pouring rain out. Within a few minutes, the flooded wells began to slowly drain and the water stopped coming in. We also have a drain in the basement floor, so the water was going down the drain, thus keeping the basement from flooding.

My neighbors weren't so lucky though. We live in a duplex and our next door neighbors had the same thing happen to them, but much worse. The duplexs' on both sides of us had their basement flooded and it was a complete mess. I feel bad for them, but at the same time, I feel fortunate that we were spared the mess.

I will say this though.....our homeowner had a plumber out this weekend and had the window well drains snaked and cleaned and put those plastic covers over them (to keep out the leaves and debris). The other duplex owners had done the same for their tenants........so........I guess all of us are fortunate to have homeowner's/landlords that take care of problems so quickly.

When I lived in Morgantown, WV...

...I remember well the weird weather in the Ohio valley and all the flooding that used to occur....

Sorry to hear about your flooding!

All areas of the U.S.A. are getting strange weather & we'll just attribute it to the global warming at this point....it's going to definintely get stranger before anything else...

My mom said she saw hail/ice balls here, 5 min from me in FL yesterday...raining down here today....

Our office A/C is out but my fan works fine...

              Hi BassBoy:

So sorry to hear about all the water! No, it didn't get the publicity of the "Big Easy." Doubt that it will, but innocent people are suffering nonetheless. I have family and friends in Ohio. Sorry to hear about your neighbors.

Am getting a little nervous now that hurricane season is in full swing! My mother-in-law is just now getting her place rebuilt after Katrina.

Quite a rain pattern, BassBoy. We live in Kansas and sometimes get the same type of "rain wave" patterns where one storm band comes in after another for days on end. Sure hope things start to dry out for you soon.

                    Dodged that bullet

It just missed us. Thank goodness. We really don't need anymore heavy rain. We did get a quick, moderate shower though, but not enough to cause flooding. I didn't hear of any other areas that had significant flooding.

LOL......with all of this rain, I'm curious why the front lawn still looks brown and is really dry.......it pinches when you walk on it.......LOL!

But anyways...........It looks like the weather will improve by Thursday and the atmosphere will dry out. The weeked ahead is looking dry, sunny and warm.
