Any ideas on how to find a weekend only job? I need to get the extra money to file, but it's so hard to find them.

Finding a Weekend Only Job

Okay, this I'm a professional at.................
Grocery stores hire lots of people for weekends only...... like Friday evening, Sat, and Sunday.... Their deli's, their cashiers, and even produce deparments all have full time help and parttime. Best part is no-one wants to work weekends...... I worked parttime weekends in a grocery store for 7 years. Every so often I took a Sunday off, but not often...... This was my paycheck supplement job.....
Also, motels hire desk clerks and night auditors, also maids for weekend work only...... Usually all shifts are available....... I also did this for many years while living in Georgia. Usually worked 3rd shift Fri and Sat nites. Sometimes just parttime in the evening as a desk clerk.....
Many of the fast food places hire weekend only people........ Speedway & BP gas centers also hire weekend people only.....
Many of the above places love to hear a person say - I can work weekends only!!!!Minny

Also, I if you have a call center type business in your area, they are always looking for weekend and off-hours people. There is one here that has hundreds of businesses that they do customer service for, BMW, Sprint, and many others and they always need people to answer Customer service calls and also do phone surveys to existing customers. They will often advertise things like, "we need college students or retirees for weekend jobs". So depending on where you live, there could be something like that. I almost had to resort to a weekend job myself on top of my already 40 hour job early in our chapter 13, but fortunately it didnt come to that. Good thing, because it would have killed me to work any more than I was, considering I am not in that great of health and still have a home and family to take care of. Anyway, I do think there are options out there. Also, I dont know if Minny mentioned it, but pizza delivery is a good one too, and you usually get tips. My husband did that for a few months while he was still an apprentice and making measly wages a few years ago.Last edited by 13inOR; 06-28-2006, 06:13 AM.

Anything that involves lifting or standing for long periods of time is out for me due to my back.
But we have quite a few colleges around here so I'll check out their papers.

I may end up doing that, too. I've thought about working part-time in a clothing store just to earn a little extra money and get discounts on clothes. May consider that when the kids go back to school. I work 40 hours per week and I also teach one night class. Still, there's so much expense with two teenagers. One will be a junior next year and it is only going to get more expensive.Filed: 2/24/2006

The best PT I had was Sears. I worked at the old Hollywood mall and liked it. The worst was as a messenger back in 87. The most fun was as a teen selling PBA tickets to the Policemans Ball, for some reason it was alot of fun. I used the Sears discount for clothes alot and also their "wear it out" policy."You once asked me for advice. You want some now? Never pass up a good thing." Yep, a clothing store parttime for someone who has kids is great......
In fact Walmarts hire all ages. They offer employees a 10% discount and you have instant access of all clothng sales before customers see them.....
Many of their employees are kids tha like the weekends off...............
Pizza delivery, WELL, I used to think it was okay...... but a few months back we had a young really nice kid who delivered pizza, get beat up and killed over a few dollars he had in his pocket when he delivered a pizza.....
Really a shame..... they got the guys for murder, but it sure was a sad thing to happen for a couple of bucks....
Wouldn't advise it for any women........ could prove to be too dangerous.....
PS - could work inside the store making pizzas for delivery.....Minny

I saw that Ross Dress for Less (the place I buy most of my clothes) is hiring--but they say you also need to unload the trucks.*** THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE--ONLY A LAWYER CAN PROVIDE THAT. ***

The Ross's near me sell a lot of clothes for larger woman--and I own a lot of those clothes, so you can bet what I'd wear to an interview. ;)Originally posted by MinnymouthWho knows, maybe they have a postion in sales and its just not posted yet..... check it out......

jane - I know exactly how you feel about teenagers and rising costs...our last child at home is a 16 year old male. His appetite is pretty close to off the chart now even though most of the time the food is healthy it seems like I am constantly in Walmart, Kroger or Target. He is working this summer and earning really good money in construction but come August he is back in school and the expenses go up yet again because he is a senior in a private school. Anticipating that, I am working a second job as a telemarketer. I dont like it but it pays $10 an hour and we only work 3 1/2 hours a night M-Th and no weekends. I have had to reorganize our whole schedule but that's life. My husband is also doing side jobs - painting, roofing, etc. It just takes a lot more money to live these days.
Anonymuse - Minny has some good ideas about second jobs...in Tennessee where I live the fast food places and the delis are always looking for people and if you want to work weekends I cant believe one of those places wouldnt snap you up. They hire a lot of teenagers especially in the summer and they sure dont want to work weekends. I worked part time one time in Macy's and I worked at Sears too. Retail is hard too because you are on your feet so long but the discount is good. Good luck...

Also, there is a great need for people to "sit with the elderly" in the evenings or on weekends also..... to give family members a break.....
Many folks have full time sitters during the week, but none available over the weekends.....
BEEN THERE, DONE THAT TOO.............. Had a bed-ridden parent for 4 years in my home...... while I worked full time. My sitters made GOOD MONEY..... and their hours were great too.
Many get paid cash under the table.......
Now I qualify as a "care-giver" also and can be certified if I wanted to be..... Have been approached by several people to see if I would be interested in sitting some over the the weekends sometimes.
Lots of odd parttime jobs available, just check around...... ask people at church, etc.......
Call the local home health center (they keep a list of available sitters for people)...... etc
A parttime job doesn't have to be a "production line" or real strenous work.....
Night auditor, desk clerk, sitter for the elderly, deli worker, can give you the extra income by working 3-4-5 hours a couple days a week or weekends and still leave you time to take care of business at home with family....... and your not totally "taxed" out of energy.....Last edited by Minnymouth; 06-28-2006, 09:35 AM.Minny

I just put in an application for PT job myself...
I am still having a hard time catching up on my cell phone bill...now with mom taking back her $300 on the tire offer...well, I need to do the same thing....
I work 40 hours myself and could work during the week and weekends but I can't do it till after the 15th of July so things are going to be a bit tight until then...
I'm paying my cell co. $300 on Friday & still owe 172 which was due yesterday so...I told them no more letting the bill ride, turn it off on the 9th of July if that's what needs to be done...I have a phone at work...if my kids need to get a hold of me, they can call me there or I can call them.Filed Oct 2005discharged February 2007,Shapeless in the fire's glow, tell me if you think you know,

I can't do any night stuff--40 hrs a week and a long commute is all I can handle.
The fun part is trying to find those jobs that aren't posted anywhere. I really don't have that network (like church) to hear the latest scoop.
I did look at some online classifieds and found a weekend receptionist position for a realtor. Sounds promising--should be better than minimum wage.
I think I'll post around town for people that need computer type of help--fix it, word processing, learning applications, web sites--that would be nice since it would be under the table.*** THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE--ONLY A LAWYER CAN PROVIDE THAT. ***
