    Movies

Well, I just titled it Movies so that i don't start a new thread each time a new one is out. Pirates of the carribean, saw it yesterday in my favorite and only theatre, Muvico 24 in Davie. What a flick! Not as good as "Cars" to me but EXXXXCELLENT nonetheless. I really like Johnny Depp, I admire the way he has nurtured his career and picked his roles over the years. I liked the guy since i saw that quirky Edward Scissorhands at the dollar theatre back around 90 or 91. I liked him better when he gave his reasons for turning down The Village or as I call it "The Village of Idiots" much as I like 'Ol Whackin Fenix and Billy Hurt and o'course the panty queen of Alien Miss Weaver, Shamalan got wierd on him and he didn't like being given a script for interviews. this guy hung on and found a perfect role in Jack Sparrow.

Yes, I know, The Village is great psych and study ,material, why do ya' think I'm runnin' to country life, still don't like the flick at all.

I LOVED Pirates! I can't wait for the third one to come out. As far as Johnny Depp charaters go, Capt Jack is my favorite.
Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirates life for me

LOL the Village, that movie scares the crap of out my youngest... I had to explain to him it was not real.... Still when we are flipping our HBO channels if he see that movie he hides his head. I wasn't impressed with it....reminded me of 6th Sense and Hide & Seek .... disappointed in the end.

I can't wait to see POTC!! I loved the first one, we are thingking of taking them to the see it on Friday, if the weather turns poopy (which it should be) Is it scary?
Hubby heard it isn't as good as the first one?...thoughts??

My son said it was awesome and I've heard only good things about it. Love Johnny Depp and can't wait to see the movie.

Saw "Failure to Launch", "Medea's Family Reunion", and "Walk the Line" this weekend. All decent movies, but "Walk the Line" was probably the best movie. Tyler Perry as Medea just cracks me up!!!

          re: Johnny Depp

I have liked him since forever. I re-watched Traffic over the weekend, again, it was just as good as the first time. I have not yet seen POTC but I'm sure I'll love it. I remember him from 21 Jump street.....oh my god, I'm dating myself....

I had a problem with the 21st Century people speaking like we THINK nineteenth Century Amish brethren spoke. It just came off really stupid. Personally I prefer the "Pinky and the Brain" version of Amish life. "Time fer another barn raisin' brother Brain", "Don't we need to go buy some nails first" asks Brain, "always with the jokin' that Brother Brain!" replies one of his "brethren".

Shamalan needed to watch some History Channel first, I think he got full of himself with "Signs". Signs was an excellent but still, quaint film, not a special effects blockbuster.

Definitely recommend seeing The Devil Wears Prada. It was poignant watching a movie all about how to get ahead and what it takes to stay on top in the business world knowing we had filed bk (btw, we were at the 11 am showing - saved almost half of the regular ticket price! ) I thought it might be too much of a 'chick flick' that my hubby wouldn't like but he loved it too. Meryl Streep turns in an amazing performance!

                    If you're into old movies...

Waterloo Bridge with Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor was on the other night. EXCELLENT movie. I cried and cried, and just loved it.

My Man Godfrey with Carole Lombard is always a favorite as well.

Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck, around 1947, "Double Indemnity", just as relevant today, what a movie. The ankle bracelet, very adult for its day.

                      The Thing 1951
The Day the Earth Stood Still

FORBIDDEN PLANET , ca 1955 can rival any modern Scifi film, the plot was magnificent and camera and color on my version are stupendous.
                      Star Trek, First Contact
                      Voyager, whole series
                      Battlestar Galactica, 2004, whole series
                      Battlestar Galactica, 1978, whole series
                      The Wind and the Lion
The Alamo 1960, not great history but my youngest and i love the Duke and know every word to the theme
The Alamo 2004, excellent D. Quad as Sam Houston, Billy Bob Thornton as David Crockett. Good history. Santa Anna is p[layed masterfully.

                      The Ten Commandments, 1956
Moses with Ben Kingsley, GREAT 199? Turner Movies

                      In fact Turner Movies:

                      Gettysburg 1994
                      Gods and Generals 200? (prequel)
                      David 199?
                      Joseph 199?

                      Zefferelli's Jesus of Nazareth 1975

                      Modern:
                      Lord of the Rings Trilogy
                      King Arthur
                      Gladiator
                      Titanic

                      Fun films
Armageddon, bad science but I don't care. love it
Tha Day after Tomorrow, horrible science, like Dennis Quad, fun movie
                      Most fun flicks of all
The Bill and Ted flicks, love them

                      Just afew of my pics.

I think "Sum of All Fears" is probably the scariest movie I've ever seen.

Way to real and the possibility that it could really happen hits really close to home.

And, of course, I LOVE Morgan Freeman.

Morgan Freeman is right up there with Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, and Sally Fields in my book. Just a few of our modern day Greats!

                          SF:

I hear you! I LOVE Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep!! I also love Dustin Hoffman! Even like Robin Williams, especially in "Good Will Hunting." (The language I could've lived without, but he did play a great shrink!) Also, Denzel!!!!!

And Owen Wilson is just the cutest with his crooked nose!!

"Shawshank Redemption" was one of my favorites--"You can either get busy living, or get busy dying." Great line.

But my all-time FAV-O-RITE movie is "The Wizard of Oz!" My favorite line from that movie is "Why, I know plenty of people without brains who can talk!" (Or something to along those lines!) Dh hates that movie as the flying monkeys scare the mess out of him.

Scariest movie I ever saw was "Silence of the Lambs"--couldn't even look a picture of Anthony Hopkins for months. Didn't sleep for three nights--freaked me out! Hellooooo, Clarice! EEEK!

I hardly ever go to the theatres, and I so miss having anything like HBO or Showtime. I never ran up the $100 packages, but I loved having one of them and would switch around whenever DirecTV had some kind of offer/incentive to change over.

Certain actors--I just know that whatever movie they are in, is going to be of excellent quality--maybe not a box office hit, but a great movie. Robin Williams, Jodie Foster, Angela Bassett, Matt Damon (my favorite actor), Laurence Fishburne, Morgan Freeman, Cuba Gooding Jr, Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Ashley Judd, Ben Kingsley, Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank, Denzel Washington. These are the kind of actors I have on my wishlist since I know just about anything they make will be worth watching.
