Did a really stuupid thing yesterday

Yesterday was the last day for DS to pay his tuition balance for college. I had kinda let it slip about putting the money into his account, so he was forced to pay on the last day. He tried and tried to call and pay with his debit card, but the line was busy all day. I was finally able to get through, 2 minutes after they stopped taking payments over the phone. So I logged onto the internet site to pay that way. Had to throw out a life line and enter that jungle known as his bedroom to find his checkbook, that he had told me was on his headboard. Made the payment online, printed the receipt, felt proud of myself
Woke up this morning to the following note: "Mom, the check book you used to pay my balance was the old check account that is closed. What do I do?"
Talk about a heart dropper! I cried and cried getting ready for work, just knowing that a) I have messed up his chances of going to school this fall over procrastinating about getting a 213$ check into the mail. or b) No one believes it was an accident, and they arrest me for not only writing a check on a closed account, but also one that I am not authorized to use( my name is on the new account, but not the closed one)

So I called the online payment service as soon as they open- sorry the payment cannot be canceled it was instant and non-cancelable. It will be returned to the school as a hot check and all the headache that entails.

I called the bank as soon as it opened and happened to get the branch manager right off the bat. She was nice enough to reopen his closed account and transfer the needed funds into it for me.

DS has been warned to shred the old checkbook so this shant occur again. And it just occured to me that I actually have a checkbook and checks sitting in my billpaying area from a closed acct, so I shall do the same with them.

Usually this type of thing happens to me!
