  • I'd also say the only thing Credit Karma is good for is to get a rough idea of your progress in rebuilding. It makes sense to pay for your FICO scores when you are preparing to apply for credit to minimize surprises and unecessary hard pulls.

  • Confusion About Mortgage Reporting on Credit Reports

I pulled my Experian report and see that my mortgage is listed under the negatives (as it should be) for late payments. The status is listed as "paid, closed". My other negatives (credit cards) are listed as IIB.
TU lists the mortgage as "closed" and 120 days late with a 0...

I agonized over valuing my stuff too. I walked around the house/garage/shed at least 15 times trying to make sure I got everything. In the end, I was a little shocked at how low the totals were but being realistic, how much would someone pay for my knick knacks, chipped dinnerware and well used garden...

  • I'm thinking perhaps you're looking at a non-FICO score that was missing some key reporting elements at that moment. What is really going to matter is where your FICO scores are after the BK is discharged and closed. It definitely won't be at 743. I'm 7 months from discharge, am working hard on my rebuild...

As far as the back surgery goes, do as the the doctor says. Do not wait- my ex and his family are full of bad backs. I realize there multiple reasons why one has back pain, but those who followed the doctor's directives had the surgery and are great and the two that decided to wait have permanent nerve...

  • Yes, this!
There are other sites that deal with this topic, of course, but this was the only one I found that had consistently sound opinions and advice that were based on fact. I used this site and the NOLO book almost exclusively to get through my pro se BK. There's a level of support and what...

  • I filed exactly one month and 10 days after the end date I guess it really doesn't matter because I escaped paying anything even though I was obsessive there for a while and didn't realize how many "pages" I was viewing at a time. I got lucky in terms of the quarter ending at the right...

I would add this: try to relax about some of the little, uncontrollable details (like when the 341 may be). BK is like a medically necessary surgery. It's done to correct an ongoing problem that is making you (and your family) sick. Follow your attorney's orders and let the process unfold. Then be wise...

Sorry, LIR, I missed this! Congratulations to you on your continued success!

So, since I last reported in December, things are moving up nicely. Reminder, I was Chapter 7, pro se and my downhill slide to BK began with divorce, which led to unpaid credit cards (side note-...

I'd add if you don't have the NOLO book already, buy it today. You can buy it as a download for immediate reading, along with a hard copy. This forum and that book got me through the process successfully.

I personally think you should forget about scores right now. They're going nowhere but down for the moment and will go up when you discharge. That's the time to worry about building your credit back up. You'll stress yourself out watching them fall and there's no point, IMO. Your job right now is getting...
