My husband and I had a chapter 7 discharge in 2010. I was terminated this week as a result of workforce reduction and offered a severance package that I of course want to take, however the paperwork includes a paragraph that states, "I represent I have not filed for personal bankruptcy between the date I first began employment with the company and the date of signing the separation agreement." I've worked for the company for 15 years. Can they really prevent me from getting a severance package because of a personal bankruptcy that was discharged almost 10 years ago? Why would this be included in the agreement?
