replied to FICO has not improved in a year now
No, do not open another CC that will lover your AA - average age of your credit history. You don't say how long you have had the cards listed open - that is an important component of your scores. Raising limits on existing cards may help, using them may also help - you need a positive payment history....

replied to Do I take the 36k or pay Cash??
You only need enough to last you until the day you die. One dollar more will do you no good. If you want to leave some to family wouldn't it be nice to give it to them while you are alive and they can properly thank you. It is no more sad to not save enough and struggle during your last years then...

Easy answer. Pay cash. Start replenishing your savings with what your car payment would have been. If you need cash down the road you can take out a car loan with your new car as the collateral. A credit union should give you a good rate if that is necessary.

replied to Yet another Barclays card question
Started with credit line of $4500, 6 months later they raised it to $5700, another @ 8 months raised to $8700. Never asked for any CLI's but heavy use and PIF every month. So no complaints. I do have other cards including a BofA American Express that gets a lot of use - it had started out as a secured...

    replied to Credit Card question....again
Capital One was easy to get a card but it apparently is hard to grow with them. Last month Barclays just gave me a CLI of $3k now up to $8700 with their rewards card. A few months back I converted my BofA secured to unsecured and changed it to their American Express card that I can now use at Cos...

Recently tried that button and was declined a CLI. Started at $1,000 over a year ago, they went up to $1500 after 6 months and that is were it stays. However, I just received a letter from Barclays yesterday and they gave me a $3k CLI without asking - now up to $8700 on their rewards card. I will...

Actually I would be in favor of federal standards for federal elections - that would stop your concern for discriminating against individual states.. In 2012 more people voted for the Democrats in the House yet because of gerrymandering we have a Republican controlled house. As you point out black...

Yes. The decision was a travesty of justice. The VRA was last renewed only 7 years ago in 2006. Congress heard significant testimony about the continued problems some states were still engaged in trying to keep minorities from voting. The law passed in the senate by a 98 - 0 vote!! In the House...

  • I would agree about trying to modify loan first. However, if you are unable to you should seriously consider stop paying your mortgage (they probably won't take you serious on a modification until you stop anyway - I had a 6.25% IO ARM that I modified to a 3.5% fix - after I stopped paying the mortgage)....

Agreed. 1 1/2 years after filing applied for Barclays and approved initial $4500 after 6 months they increased to $5700 limit. At time had 2 secured cards $5k and $3k....

Get a secured B of A credit card -- can get it in the rewards card and you choose the limit by the amount of your deposit. After a year you should be able to get it unsecured and then do a product change to their American Express rewards card. A high limit will also help you get other cards with high...

  • Banks have done a wonder job in their propaganda machine. Remember the commercials about your "Fico" scores. They want people to feel bad or guilty about filing BK. This forces many to do everything possible to avoid what might be inevitable, even if that means people draining their exempt...

  • Agreed. The judge should issue a quick denial, otherwise this would be a slippery slope. She never has to sell or cooperate with any one regarding her life story. Most people who file BK have a clear "potential" to make money in the "future". That is why some people end up in...

replied to What if I don't do anything?
Not everything in life is "planned". If you don't trust yourself that might be a consideration. Otherwise, you can greatly build your credit up over time by getting 2 or 3 credit cards and if you never carry a balance it will not cost you anything. The sooner you start the better as "aging"...

  • Umm I don't think so. A $140k loan 3.25% interest 15 year loan would be $983/month. To pay off the loan in 8 years you would have to pay $1658/month. At 3.5% interest you would have to pay $1,000/month to pay it off in 15 years....

I agree with Amy26 that credit unions are probably your best bet, but I did also try with BofA and Wells Fargo. I did receive a secured card from BofA and will see if they make it unsecure in a few months - they were are a part of my BK. Wells Fargo would not even though they were Not a part of my...

  • 3 Years ago it might have been good to join a credit union and have established credit with them. If you haven't do that now. I joined one (DCU) a little more than a year post filing and 9 months later got a new car loan $40k @ 1.99% interest. Started off with them with a $5K secured credit card...
