  • Yay, you!!!! I, too, am in the rebuilding phase and it's been such a comfort to have this forum available. Great advice and support!

I would add this: try to relax about some of the little, uncontrollable details (like when the 341 may be). BK is like a medically necessary surgery. It's done to correct an ongoing problem that is making you (and your family) sick. Follow your attorney's orders and let the process unfold. Then be wise...

Sorry, LIR, I missed this! Congratulations to you on your continued success!

So, since I last reported in December, things are moving up nicely. Reminder, I was Chapter 7, pro se and my downhill slide to BK began with divorce, which led to unpaid credit cards (side note-...

I'd add if you don't have the NOLO book already, buy it today. You can buy it as a download for immediate reading, along with a hard copy. This forum and that book got me through the process successfully.

I personally think you should forget about scores right now. They're going nowhere but down for the moment and will go up when you discharge. That's the time to worry about building your credit back up. You'll stress yourself out watching them fall and there's no point, IMO. Your job right now is getting...

I need to preface what I say with a giant caveat- I am by no means any kind of expert or even very knowledgeable of anything BK related other than my own experience.
So, maybe someone who knows more than I can jump in here.... What would be the advantage in continuing to pay the credit card bills?...

Just an FYI, I mailed mine (certified). My court is over 200 miles away and that was just a bit too much for me. Certified mail gets you delivery confirmation and takes the same amount of time as regular mail. Registered takes longer and is more expensive, but offers "an unbroken chain of custody"...

I can't answer all of your questions, but I can say my foreclosure doesn't show up as the F word on my regular credit reports. I think I heard somewhere that mortgage companies can see it on your mortgage score and that it may be coded on your regular credit report as a foreclosure. It does show up...

Oh, and yes, there were multiple debtors scheduled for one block of time.

Mine was done in an open court. One trustee and we were called up to a table. Your attorney will know but if you're representing yourself and it would make you feel better, you can go and observe your court.

Yes, you're right! Sorry about that. I would add Experian- they have an app as well and give you an updated FICO 8 score for free.

Discover will give anyone a free score monthly and it's your FICO TU score. You don't receive alerts but it gives you an idea of where you are. As mentioned, Credit Karma and Credit Sesame are free and give alerts. They also have apps that make it convenient to check your progress but the are not FICO...

  • It does pay to shop, for sure. I was with Farm Bureau for many, many years. They were consistently good for me for a long time, then started upping my rate as my credit tanked so I switched.

I did confirm that the Credit Karma insurance score is not accurate. Mine was indeed off by about...

  • It really helps me to plan a menu for the upcoming two weeks (that's how often I grocery shop). I make the list according to what is on sale and stick to a budget. Not stopping every few days and getting additional impulse buys has really cut down on the grocery bill. I'm also not tempted to just get...

  • You'll probably be just fine- it doesn't seem they check much, if at all, for existing customers. If you see your rates rise, know that your credit score will climb back up along with your insurance score. And, the circumstances that brought you to BK are dragging your score down now - the BK will give...

  • I think it's the score (which, of course is impacted by the BK). It seems most companies don't recheck your score very often (if at all, or only at your request) so whatever you have now may not change. When and if you change companies, you may see a difference. What's strange is that I was seeing a...

  • Mine will do it yearly, but only at my request. I got a hold of my insurance guy and he was able to look at it since it has been over a year. It's not as high as I'd like or as I'd hoped, but has improved. I am not sure the version he looked at thought so I don't know if it's a direct comparison to...
