Hi

Its been a while since I been here, I've been busy working.

I am a member of Prosper which I heard about from Creditboards and I am trying to get a small loan of $1450 to pay off a payday loan and to pay off my car in full. I am trying my best to get funded by changing groups, my profile and even lowering my loan request which was originally $1900. Since there's no guarantee that everyone who requests will be fully funded, I am trying to weigh my options. I have been discharged from my CH7 BK almost 3 months, so I have been doing google searches for loans especially for people with not so great credit. I am automatically taken to a site that deals with "payday loans" the very thing I am trying to avoid. I don't think it would be smart to take out another PDL to pay the first one off. If it wasn't for my car issues twice last month - I would not have needed to take out the PDL in the first place.

Besides the PDL sites, there was another site "Bad Credit Lender" which claimed that for a $99 fee they would find a loan for you. I refuse to pay someone a fee for something I can do on my own - even if they have allegedly been featured on TV and papers.

My next alternative was to file an application online with AIG. So a rep called me this morning to say that they could help me out with the loan - however their policy is to not accept someone for an unsecured loan until 2 years after a discharge. I was told that for the money I borrow it would cost me $90 a month for 24 months and that they would pay my bank off for the car, but then they would have a lien on my car. My whole purpose was to pay off the car and get a clean title to do whatever I please with. But my immediate need was to pay off the PDL which is $432 and since I have extended 2x without paying down the loan (except $20 toward the principal) at this rate I would end up paying back more than what I borrowed.

The AIG plan did sound tempting, because I could get the loan to pay off my car and use the regular car payment for this month to pay the PDL. I would pay more than the $90 to AIG and when I got my taxes PIF. I would get the orig bank off my back and the PDL paid. I just don't like the interest of over $700 on a $1450 loan. I just hope Prosper comes through, I could use the money to pay off my bills and have a much lower payment of $50 a month spread out over 36 months even with my credit.

Does anyone know of any legitimate, non-payday loan lenders? Please advice

Thanks
sbb

Have you joined your local credit union? Most CU's these days don't have restrictions on who can join ... you could even join one in another state if you have a relative who belongs to it. Credit unions are a lot more flexible in how they can loan, especially unsecured credit. Just a thought.
