Good evening Todd & HHM. In the state of MS, are you allowed to open/ apply for a credit card account before a discharge has been granted?

In no state are you allowed to open/apply for new credit before discharge in a chapter 7 case. The rules are a little different for Chapter 13, generally, you have to get permission from the court to open/apply for new credit.
Why do you need a credit card at this point...? -
Once I receive my tax id # for my business I would like to open a new checking account for business purposes and a c/c account for business expenses (i.e. items that can be written off at the end of the year). I have been told that banks do not run personal credit on business accounts. I need to establish my business legally b/c I am opening a new salon.Comment

If you form a corporation (i.e. File Articles of Incorporation with your Secretary of State), then it will be the Corporation that is getting the Credit Card and you should be ok. However, the bank WILL most likely look at your personal credit report because its a new business.Comment
