For example, when I pulled up one of the major three, it still listed my joint mortgage with my ex husband as paid off for like $500K....can that kind of thing have any good bearing now?

Would my previous "good" credit be of any help when they pull my credit reports now?

A BIG YES......................
My credit report has lots of accounts that say paid in full, etc - loans, auto payments, and credit cards.
Recent inquiry about refinancing my house the creditor said my credit was excellent except during the bankruptcy time span and asked me what happened. I told them what caused the BK and they understood.....
So yes it does help......Minny

Thanks Minny!
I was hoping for that answer....I pay my Hooters in full, online...and I have another card, no annual, $3K limit....just opened....I read the rest of them that come in the mail but I don't feel I need any more than the Hooters @ $1K and the other one.........I don't want back in that big 'ole credit hole....I spend no more than $150 on the Hooters per month as I know that's what I can afford to deal with....god...I get scared using it...but I figure it's good training for being responsible.....

ABSOLUTELY........ really you need no more than 2...... 3 at the most..... to rebuild your credit back up.......
Just make sure payments are current and on time.......
Keep your balance on the $1K under $200.00 at all times and the $3K keep it under $500.00 is you can........
It is so easy to get back in the use of them again.........
Self-control and budget planning is the name of the game when it comes to using credit cards........ otherwise they are just "too tempting" too use and abuse......
Sounds like your off to a good start and now that you have your auto settled too, things shoud be "looking up" at your house.......
My best too ya,

My credit was PRISTINE befor 2001, when the whole cc thing went down...but, like I said, my mortgage with X was over $500K....credit cards were paid in full every month...that kinda thing...since the bk, I have tried to clean up my credit report, have paid my bills on time...FPL just credited me back my deposit for timely payments, which makes me feel good...so I'm trying...Originally posted by freshstart2006 View PostDefinitely, yes. I do FHA mortgage underwriting and when we see responsible credit habits before and after bankruptcy, it really does help.
I do have the IRS debt but will get with them to get that workable...I own my SUV...I pay my cc bill in full now every month...
I can't do anymore than I'm doing to get it right

GOOD GOING GIRL........ now let TIME do its thing........ how long your credit history is good is very important also....... no lates, no missed payments, nothing going to collections............ the longer it shows good payment records the better you are, the higher the credit score......
You've done good.... be proud.......Minny
