Do I tell them we're filing???

When collectors call, do I tell them we're planning to file and leave us alone? We should have papers to sign and file by 3/27/07 and the attorney is fully paid. I'd told my own collectors to contact my attorney a few months ago (he has been fully paid for a while) and then I ended up getting served by Discover . So... what do I do? Just ignore the calls (we have caller ID) until we have officially filed? I just want them to stop calling us at home and hubby at work. Suggestions?

I would give the attny the service papers from Discover and let him/her do their job. You're a week away from 'quiet time'. There's a great sense of satisfaction you get after the papers are in the court and you have a case number to give - I enjoyed that last phone call with each creditor soooo much. Most of them actually changed their tune and were somewhat nicer than before once they know I had changed the rules on them!

I would tell them, yes. The day we retained our attorney he told us to give them HIS name and number and let him deal with them. I've only got one (HSBC) that keeps calling over and over, morons! All the others stopped calling once I gave them my attorney's name and number.

The best thing to do if to file and get it over with. Until you have a bk case number, most creditors won't call your attorney, they will just continue to pester you.

Caller Id and the ability to turn off the ringer is a beautiful thing. We were getting at least 10 calls per day for almost a year from 8am to 9pm, we stopped answering them about 6 months ago.

We filed on March 13th, the calls totally stopped on March 19th.

My credit is ruined and I will be tied to the trustee for the next 3-5 years, but at least now I can answer my phone.
