Would this create a problem for us?

My sister who lives many states away from us has asked us to come and spend a week with her in June. They have a pool that the kids would enjoy and since we only get to see them once a year, it would be so nice to spend time with her. She recently changed jobs, so she has summers off now.

We would really only need extra money for gas as we would stay with her. I will give her some money towards food even though she will protest that. I figure that amount will be offset by not having our food expense here at home. Dh has paid vacation and he is not able to take it in cash instead.

We would be gone during the timeframe between filing and the 341 meeting most likely. I am just wondering if anyone can see where this could be a problem for us? Are there situations that might arise during that timeframe that we would need to manage right away? I told her there might be and she suggested that we could bring all our financial documents with us and could send them to the attorney from there if anything is needed. We could be home within 12 hours, if needed.

Please let me know what you think. I know it would be nice to get away and spend time with her & her family, but I don't want to do anything that would be looked down upon or cause problems for us.

Take the vacation and enjoy yourselves!!

People are allowed to visit with family. Even the Court realizes that.

Most times, like 95%, nothing happens between filing and the 341. But there are occasions.

For example,............ If you're filing on in excess of $100K unsecured, very shortly after you file, the UST may contact your Trustee, who will contact your attny, and ask for things like past CC Statements, Bank Statements, that kind of thing. The look back time frame can vary from 6 months to a year or 2. Generally, if the UST's Office has questions, and you supply the docs in advance of the 341, then everything is said and done by the time you go to the 341. The UST is satisfied so the Trustee doesn't press the issue.

Personally, I'd suggest you let your attny know your going. Just in case. If you can't check your email remotely from Sis's house, maybe give your attny's office an alternate email address where they can contact you. If you don't have cell phones, give them Sis's phone number as well.

    Have fun, and enjoy yourself!!

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
