A couple of ?s... Savings Accts and Credit Check Svcs...

Q.1: Is it okay to open savings accounts after filing (before discharge)? If not, at what point can I open some? I was inspired by the post-filing course and want to get started on my future.

Q.2: I thought about joining one of those credit monitoring services, like freecreditreport.com, but thought I'd better see if that was okay. I don't know why it wouldn't be, but you never know!

ETA: Q.3: Is it fruitless to check PACER until after my 341 meeting?

    Thanks everyone!

I have the same q's about opening a savings account. I'm going to start savings too. Look in the Lifestyle Changes section to see about some good savings rates.

There's a PACER sticky file at the top of General BK Talk. I gave instructions in there how to access your case file quickly.

Once you check your file the first time, all you've gotta do is check for a change in the Last Date something was entered. If that date does not change, there's no need to look. And checking that part, the Last Date Filed, is FREE!!

Some people do open new Bank accts after filing BK because the new bank accts aren't part of the BK Estate. If you're not filing against your current bank for anything, there's generally no reason to change Banks. Most times, nothing happens. We filed and it was business as usual afterward.
