I've stopped paying my credit cards for 3 months already; how long before they seize my single bank account?

They can't seize anything unless they sue you and win.

The shady area would be if your bank account is at a bank you owe money to. If thats the case I would move the account immediatly to a bank you do not owe money to.

I completely agree with jal1129 - don't keep money in banks that you owe money to. Oftentimes, they have a setoff clause in your depository agreements that allows them to use money in your deposit accounts toward any loans you have with them that are in default. This can be done without a judgment.

As for bankruptcy, I looked up the exemptions for New York, and you are allowed to exempt up to $2500 in cash if you don't claim a homestead. As for if the trustee will bother for $300 cash if you claim a homestead - most likely they won't.
