HELP ! WhatS a person to do against the big boys....?

I recently checked my credit report and found that my old credit union is still reporting an old auto loan as a "charge off" despite sending them certified letters. I notified them that they are reporting my accounts incorrectly after my BK. They repo'ed my vehicle while I was in BK proceedings, and three months later my BK was discharged. What are my avenues now to get this corrected on my credit report ?

Well, sending a certified letter is not guaranteed to work. You have to include the right information and sometimes give them specific instructions (e.g. 'demand') that they perform according to the rules of proper reporting. If the car loan was included in the bk and was discharged, then it should report as IIB, with zero balance - and that's it. If the Charge off was added AFTER the bk was filed, that's incorrect and should be removed. You may have to dispute this again with a warning to take them to court...it could be worth a thou to you!

There are more and more of us, BK Filers, having the same problem, FN.

Accts that should say $0 Balance and IIB showing as Charged Off.

We had 3 accts turned over to outside Collections at the time we filed yet MOST of our accts are showing as $0 Balance, Charged Off or Bad Debt, and IIB.

Repeated disputing is getting nowhere. It's just pushing the date for how long the information will show on our Credit Reports further and further out.

Myself and others have had success by disputing 'Not Coded Correctly'

The coding of the account refers to its current status apparently.

This tip was given to me by a lovely phone rep from one of the credit bureaus themselves.

Unless you dispute specific things that speak their language, chances are many disputes go completely ignored or denied.
