Merchant charged my cc for sale to pay somebody else's bill

I had a merchant accidentally use my credit card to pay for another client's bill.

With the charge, it put me over my credit limit.

Now, my card is essentially 'shut down' and I'm sure I'll be looking at heavy fees for being over my credit limit.

Does this also affect my credit rating/will it get reported?

It was not at all my fault.

Contact the card issurer "NOW", both by phone and certified letter and contest the charge. That will, under Federal Law, stop this. Your time is limited, I believe to 60 days.

It wouldn't hurt none either to get the Merchant who made the charge errror to write a letter to your Creditor as well.

I did that when the bank made an error that caused several checks to bounce. Had the bank send letters to everyone involved that the non sufficient funds situation was not my fault. It was a Bank Error.

Maybe if the Creditor sees that the situation was indeed not your fault, they'll reverse all charges. Over limit fees, increased interest, and such.

Thanks for the advice. I did card the cc and they are putting the amount into dispute.

        Thanks again! Just frustrating.

Sometimes, when you're prepping for or in the midst of BK, things you can normally handle are overwhelming. You just don't think of the obvious things to do because your brain is on overload!

We had a similar situation. Years ago I paid my sister's AMEX card from my checking account for her after she gave me the cash. Well last month for whatever reason, AMEX tried to take her payment out of my bank acccount that we're trying to leave NOTHING in, so it overdrew the account, the overdraft protection kicked in. To make matters worse, my bank denied it (NSF) and charged me an OD fee of $29. This happened 3 times, I was livid. We're still fighting with AMEX to get my $ back!
