    Credit counseling

It sounds like I need to complete credit counseling prior to filing. Can I do this online? Also, the attorney I am planning to use calls itself a debt relief agency...does that mean they will provide the counseling to me so I do not have to deal with CCCS or someone like that?
    Thanks,
    Lefty

I did both of my courses online. There are several companies that offer them- just make sure they are approved by the Dept. of Justice.

These courses are about money management. They are not credit counseling where a firm/nonprofit negotiates with your creditors to reduce your rates (that's what I thought it was and was so relieved when I found out I was wrong!)

    On to rebuilding!

All BK attnys were required to call themselves a "Debt Relief Agency" per the New Law. It's just semantics. Don't worry about it.

Some BK attnys have filers do Credit Counseling and post BK Debtor Education in their office. Others don't care where you do it as long as you get it done.

You must use a DOJ approved agency to get your Certs from. You can use one for before and a different one for after if you want. Doesn't matter.

      Here's a link for you:

You can check to see what Agencies are approved for your State. You can use an online Agency or you might have a local office where you can go in for a face to face session.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
