    Rent-To-Own

I'm 7 months into a 18-month Rent-to-Own contract with a company for a Laptop computer. I use the computer for work.

I working on all the paperwork to get to my attorney for filing. If it was a TV I would just give it back to them, but there's a lot of sensitive information in there now.

Can I list them as a creditor? I would rather not re-affirm the debt unless I have to, that's $200/month that I'm sure a trustee is not going to want to see going out of my budget each month.

    Thanks!

Your question is really a computer issue. There are a number of software programs that will remove all of the information that was stored on the hard drive of the laptop. Check the Internet for names of the software.

I cannot think of a more expensive way of buying something than rent-to-own.
    regards,

Back everything up on a disk that you want to save, then format your hard drive.

Agreed. While simply formatting the HDD won't truly erase anything, your typical rent-to-own laptop user won't be interested in trying to scavange the data.

Also, did the laptop come with "restoration" software? You should reinstall Windows before it gets turned in.
