How can I find my bankruptcy record?

    Dear All,

I filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy about 12 years ago. I repaid everything and the case was closed.

I recently left the US and took a job overseas. They asked whether "I have ever been adjudged bankrupt?"

First, should I answer yes or no? If they asked whether I have ever filed for bankruptcy. I am sure the answer is yes. But the above seems to be a different question.

Second, if I wanted to get a copy of my bankruptcy record to proof that the case was closed, is it doable? I was told that nothing is left after 7 years.

    I desparately need your advice!!!!!

    Faithfully,

Try PACER first. You can download and print out most all of your case files there.

    http://www.bkforum.com/showthread.php?t=1011

That thread has a link to PACER and some basic instructions to get you started in your search.

Another place to try is the Ch 13 Data Center:

    https://www.13datacenter.com/index.asp

That's an accounting website that shows what all you paid in, what was paid out, and to who.

Being you filed 12 years ago, I'm not sure if your records would be either place. Even tho PACER has been around a while, not all Courts had electronic capability at the start. But it's worth a check to see.

That's a couple easy things you can do from where you are on your own.

Beyond that, if you don't find what you need, I'd suggest you contact the attny that filed your BK. The attny should be able to mail you copies of everything related to your case.
