If you are an ATT customer worried about migration to Cingular don't fret. They do not pull a credit report. The migration is somewhat seemless. I did it today. With ATT for five years with a pretty good payment history.

Did you acutally have to do anything...

I remember when T-Mobile bought VoiceStream, I didn't even have to do anything, the only thing that changed was the little network indicator on the phone, instead of VoiceStream, it said T-Mobile. (and of course the bill letterhead changed).

You will get the "Cingular" logo on the phone instead of ATT but remember now we are using sim cards. If you have to obtain a new phone you have to migrate your whole family plan or purchase a new account for the new phone. It is a Simm Card issue, the ATT card will not work.

You pay the $18.00 migration fee per phone and they put through the whole "new contract" spiel with the exception of a credit check. If you do not wish to migrate you can terminate your ATT account at any time without penalty.

My sons phone is acting up so we tried to buy one off ebay but it will only accept a Cingular Simm Card, hence the migration.

Yeah, that explains it. We didn't have to switch sim cards, in fact, I am still using the same sim card I first received from VoiceStream years ago.
