    Argh!!!

My MIL called today to tell me that someone had called their home yesterday trying to reach us. We have been having problems with our phone which the phone company seems unable to get resolved (it will work sometimes and not others - they fix it and it works for a few days then goes dead again), but we still have the same number as on their records, etc.. We haven't changed our phone numbers at all and it is publically listed.

Anyway, they told her they were from a law firm and they hadn't been able to get ahold of us. I am so upset as we have been trying to keep this from our in-laws. They have had a really hard time lately worrying about so much, my dh's health issues as well as another of their sons with major health issues, and a grandson going thru cancer treatments.

Dh called the number they left today. He was upset when I gave him with the number to call. Yesterday, Chase called him on his cell phone and said they wanted to work out a settlement with us. He told them that we were filing BK. They pretended they didn't know but asked him about settling instead. They asked for our attorney info (which we had previously given them) but he didn't have it with him. He told them he would call back today with it. Turns out the number he had written down yesterday to call back was the same number of the "law firm" that called my in-laws house.

Dh wasn't happy, of course, as he had talked with the person yesterday. He asked them about it today and they told him that "sometimes they make mistakes like that... these things just slip thru the cracks". Dh asked him why they wouldn't have mailed us something before calling around to try to find family. They admitted they hadn't mailed us anything but said they sent a letter out yesterday. Dh asked him if it wouldn't have been appropriate to see if we responded to the letter before calling others and the man told him there was no reason for him to get confrontational.

Anyway, dh told him that he was not to call his parents again. I guess there isn't anything else we can do about this until we have actually filed, correct?

I hate that dh's parents got that call. I just told my MIL I would have dh call them and see who they were. I hope they don't ask us about it as I don't want to lie to them and we don't want to burden them right now either.

Any suggestions of what we can do to avoid them calling them again? We gave them our attorney info again and the man said he would put it on our file.

    Thanks,
    reallynervous

I don't think there's really much you can do to stop creditor phone calls until you actually file. Then they CANNOT call you, by law. Oh what a relief that was!!!!!!!!!!

From the minute I filed, I never received ONE phone call or even ONE more bill. Zilch, zip, nada, ALL GONE.

hello there.....if you are filing, give them your attys name and phone #...he can tell them your intent to file...that may stop some but once you get your district and case number and date filed, have it handy...it will stop them cold....don't know what a cc bill is anymore...haven't got one or got one single call since I filed......good luck guzzie
