    How Things Have Changed

I was taking out some money from a bank yesterday and the teller asked me if I own a home. I asked her why she was asking. And she was trying to get me to take out a home equity loan to consolidate my cc debt. A teller.

I don't remember tellers doing this years ago. But maybe I was too young....?

A girl just came to work in my office. She was a teller in a bank but hated it and wanted to leave because they were required to "sell" different accounts and services. If they didn't make quota it was reflected on their review.

Almost every time we're in the bank, face to face, one of the Tellers tries to solicit some new product or service. At first, I thought they were just being helpful. Most of the stuff was things like "Earn points when you use your Debit Card" or "How to earn more interest on our Checking acct".

Then I saw an ad for a Teller position with a competitor local bank. Sales was one of the requirements for the job. "Offer new products and services to customers."

I guess Banks realized you only ask to speak to an officer once in a while. Customers deal with Tellers almost every time they come into the Bank.

I currently work in a bank as an Executive Assistant. Now tellers are required to sell, sell , sell. There are many expectations placed on the teller, but they are the lowest paid bank employee. Huge turnover. My opinion, they have the hardest job in the bank.
