I called my bankruptcy attorney's office to discuss what happens for a payoff. I wasn't necessarily requesting one now. The legal assistant who answered assumed I wanted a pay off now so they sent in a request to the trustee.
Le. Grr.
I was not quite ready.
What I had actually called was to ask questions about the process and what information the trustee would want to know. (Like, where I was getting the money from, etc...) I just wanted to ask questions. Instead, she requested one.
What the hell is it with people, supposedly ENGLISH SPEAKING people, no less, hearing only keywords and acting on those keywords? (Here's my rant: YOU'RE A HUMAN BEING NOT A SEARCH ENGINE! LISTEN TO MY WHOLE STATEMENT FIRST!!!!) I never said I wanted to request one, just that I wanted to TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT IT FIRST to see if this was a move I wanted to make.
The first call was last week where they sent in the pay off request. I called this week wondering why I hadn't had my phone call returned. The legal assistant wondered why I'd get a return phone call. I told her, "Because I requested one?" She just said, "Oh." Apparently, it was a misunderstanding. Hence my rant. I think she just heard some keywords, "payoff", and acted on that.
Oi.
Anyway.
I called the trustee's office. My base balance is a lot higher than what I thought it would be. But I think I can manage it. I think I'll have it by NEXT paycheck, not this one. It'll wipe out my wee savings and pretty much take up my next 2 paychecks. (Good thing I live in a cheap apartment with a supporting boyfriend who wants me out of bankruptcy as soon as possible.)
This will be an early pay off. Early by about 10 to 11 months. I'm nervous now. I'm nervous because I make a considerable amount more money than I did 4 years ago and the legal assistant asked how I was going to pay. I NEVER heard anything about wanting to knowpay raises, just if I had some "windfall." I told the legal assistant it was coming out of a wee small savings I have. I really really really hope that the trustee doesn't want to look at my current salary.
Like I said, my base balance is higher than what I thought it was and my actual pay off amount could be higher or lower - after the audit the trustee needs to do. I just hope ... that I can manage this. I may have to wait another month or two. What I'm nervous about is that I may have to because I don't really want to have to wait. I want out of this so badly and move on with my financial life.
