My future wife has to buy her own house

since banks look at the spouse with the lowest credit score..........

    sigh......

my plan is this: save up the money , give it to my future wife(who i love and trust so so so much), and let her make a down payment(along with what she saved)

then after the house is bought, then we get married

    would that work out?

My husband and I did this before we were married. I had a few minor dings on my credit and I was afraid it would cause higher mortgage interest and he bought the house in his name alone in 1999. We married in 2000. You can add yourself to the deed later if you'd like. I think this is a very common practice. I know one of my relatives bought a house in her name alone because her husband had a judgement on his credit. One of the funniest things was when we were at a party and she told her husband jokingly, "the house is all mine if you don't behave" and my idiot brother-in-law said, "if you try to take the house, I'll bury you in the backyard." They are like the most bizarre couple, either totally loving or threatening to kill each other. Oddly, I think they have the best marriage of anyone I know.

Scream, I think it will be fine with the house being purchased in her name alone. After a few years when your credit is better, you can refinance in both names if you like. Thats what we did.

lol i know, but she is the one, 99%, but hey u never know...

she's planning to save about 120k in 3 years, while i be saving about 60k - i'll give her the 60k, and she will head to the real estate agent herself buying as a single. Then, eventually we'll get married.

After we get married, will the payments be reflected on the new marriage, and will they look at my credit score?

            Scream,

Good luck with this! I've considered making this suggestion to the boyfriend since he has really great credit and I'm the one who can save, but I'd need and want to be put on the deed later on.

Ultimately, I just decided I'll save and build up my own credit and by the time I save up the cash, hopefully my credit will be better and I'll just buy a house myself.

Wow! Where do you live that requires a 180k down payment?!?! In my area that would be a VERY nice house without the need for a mortgage!

Edit- I just noticed you live in New York.... simply amazes me the price of living in bigger cities! The town I live in has a metro of like 1.5mil so its not exactly a small town... but wow!
