Adding creditors after filing?

We filed Ch. 7 in May, and we had our 341 meeting a week ago. Just when we were beginning to think that our situation is actually going to get better, my husband started having trouble with his knee, which he injured years ago, and his doctor has told him that his only option is to have surgery on it, which will be next week. He's already had an MRI, doctor's visits, and after the surgery the bills will probably total close to or over $5000. Bad timing, huh??!! Because of our health insurance has a high deductible, our out-of-pocket expenses will be somewhere between $1000 and $2000. I don't suppose it's possible for us to amend our petition and have these medical expenses added?

Not really, the debt is incurred post-petition. However, you need to speak with your BK attorney. I don't know all the ins-and-outs of dealing with post-petition debts in a chapter 7. My instinct tells me you are out of luck.
